Does this ruling means that very soon same sex marriages will be allowed in all 50 states, because if the state of MA allows it, then constitutionally all the remaining states have to honor the ruling. Any lawyers here?
The highest court in Massachusetts declared in an opinion issued today that only full marriage rights for gay couples — not just civil unions — would comply with the state’s constitution, clearing the way for same-sex marriages to begin taking place by mid-May. http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/04/national/04CND-MASS.html?hp

Some state legislatures (e.g. Ohio) recently redefined marriage as a union between a man and a woman, just to make sure a judge cannot rule otherwise.

A judje can overrule a legislation. That's why they try to make a constiutional amendment.
If we believe all the conservative talk shows in US, this is beginning of the end of the great US civilization.
Oh wait, that beginning of the end was actually Janet's 'thing' on national television.
Whatever.
Same week.
The society is going to the dogs. Moral decay has seeped in and now is establishing a firm foothold. This is an outrage. As a society US has become numb to constant attacks on its moral fiber. Next we know, man will marry two women, man will marry dog, man will marry his car... the list goes on... all have equal protection. All of this will be called "marriage". Blah blah blah.
We need myvoice, to bring some sanity back in the US.

I think you lost yours when you posted that. Gay marriages is an irrelevant issue to me. They wanna get married fine. They want to legalize it as much as they want? fine. But it is still morally wrong no matter what legal stance they take.
every culture over time had a moral code .. and they were usually drastically different.
sacrificing an animal is morally repugnant to some... while being a human sacrifice was the highest honour a person could receive in the mayan civilisation.
The US definitely needs to protect the sanctity of herterosexual marriage. Otherwise our admirable divorce rate of 50% would increase to an embarassing level. Where would the moral foundation of matrimony have been if Darva Conger’s millionaire was another women? Could you imagine if my Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance were two men That would be an affront to the holiness of marriage. What if Britney Spears quickie marriage would have been to another women? It would have made a mockery of the righteous marriage institution.
Look what happened when the US gave black Americans equal rights. Before you knew it, dogs and cars wanted the same rights! We must do whatever it takes to keep heterosexual marriage the holy and hallowed entity that it is so we can continue to let the self righteous believe that have a monopoly on morality.

Murder is murder. Stealing is stealing. There is absolute morality. But if you wanna get really anal about it you are right as there are no absolutes in life.
To make a valid statement on absolute morality one has to have absolute knowledge. Just to throw religion about, Allah has absolute knowledge and the creator has deemed it a sin thus to me its a case of absolute morality. Saying anything more would just be cheeky.
All the political mumbo jumbo aside....simple logic tells you that marriage is between a man and a woman. Why? That is how it has been from the begining of time. Like the old saying goes Its' Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve. Gays want equal rights, well then dont ask for special rights...which they are always clamoring about. Equal means equal.....nothing special deal with it. People site examples of Britney Spears and others who treated marriage as a joke...Why do you want to generalize this issue? There are many couples who have been married for a long time and are enjoying a very happy life.
Divorce rate has nothing to do with this argument. There are many other reasons that explain the high divorce rate in US.

the punishment or murder has been different over the many incarnations of religion including monotheism.
no 'stealing' occurs in cultures where there is no concept of 'personal' objects. there are many such cultures still in existence where everything belongs to the community .. so try explaining to concept of stealing and 'punishment' for stealing to them.
I am personally disgusted and disenchanted with our entire legal system when it comes to this whole “gay marriage” issue. However, I did overhear a funny comment on the issue - - -
“Gays want to have equal rights to marriage??? Let them! Why shouldn’t they be as miserable as the rest of us?”:nahnah:
S.F. mayor has allowed giving license to the Gay couples - and according to the CNN report - there is a marriage per minute - close to 380 couple tied the knot just today!
my personal view is that there should not be a constitutional amendment but let the civil unions in all 50 states decide what they want to do with this issue.
