Watched that match on TV, it was during the first world cup. Indian fans ran onto the pitch at one stage pleading with Gavaskar to score runs faster. I think he thought he could draw the match by not getting out. :hehe:

I. Recall John snow was giving him some verbal abuse.
1975 pataudi scored 5 in more than an hr vs Gibbs Roberts et al in wankhede. Kept getting beaten but could not get out in what was a draw.
Pat had a poor batting performance in series but led us to a nice win.

He achieved some sort of a draw. He drew the ire of Indian fans and cricket lovers.

age old argument, I am not sure if it is the best thing that has happened to cricket but I can definitely got a wider audience attracted. People from around the world know about this game, I personally lost interest after the first 2 seasons mainly because of the length of the tournament. Its too long to keep track of which team is winning.
For me Test cricket is still the premium format and one that I enjoy watching !!

Although I agree that Twenty20 cricket does changes your technique and it will impact how you play ODI and Test matches, but I will never take Mr. Gavaskar too seriously on this. He has been on both side of this argument. Until last year, as per him IPL was the best thing that has happened to cricket not suddenly he is out of favor with BCCI and IPL became bad.
Respect for Imran. He is consistent n this point of view.
But they should also keep in mind that it is making cricketer richer and it is bringing lot more spectator to this game.
