Former test cricketers Sunil Gavaskar of India and England’s Ian Botham have been appointed as members of a technical committee that will oversee international matches played in Sharjah, officials said on Monday.
The technical committee will ensure that the tournaments follow cricket’s laws and International Cricket Council (ICC) rules.
The committee will also lay down the method of preparation of wickets and approve the quality of services provided to players, referees and umpires, the Cricketers Benefit Fund Series (CBFS), which organises matches in Sharjah, said in a statement.
``Gavaskar and Botham have been chosen for their unmatched contribution to cricket both on and off the field,‘’ said the statement released in New Delhi.
Gavaskar, the first man to score 10,000 test runs, and Botham, an explosive all-rounder, are both former test captains.
