Gates unveils virtual Da Vinci notebook

LONDON, England (AP) – Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates showed off a virtual version of his own collection of Leonardo Da Vinci’s scientific musings on Tuesday at the British Library as he unveiled the company’s eagerly anticipated Windows Vista operating system.

Although Gates spent most of his time touting Vista’s potential to spawn the next generation of business and entertainment software, the presentation’s centerpiece – a virtual notebook filled with fluttering, beautifully textured pages in Da Vinci’s faded handwriting – stole the show.

“This is an innovative way to bring treasures – including mine – to a new audience,” Gates said, as the 72-page notebook – known as the Leicester Codex – danced back and forth on the two giant screens behind him.

Gates said that Turning the Pages 2.0, the program that displayed the notebook was among many Vista was making available to Windows users.

“It is just one of many thousands,” he said. “Every time we move the platform up to a new level, we’re amazed at what the software industry does with it.”

More than five years in the making, Vista was released for businesses November 30, but the unveiling for consumers only came Tuesday. It went on sale in 70 countries, along with new versions of Microsoft Exchange e-mail software and the flagship Office business suite, which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Gates said that what the public expected from computers had changed dramatically over the past decade – and that Vista would provide the platform to meet those new needs.

Vista will help power what Gates called the new “digital lifestyle” by opening up a new environment for software makers to develop their products, something he said had always been critical to Windows’ success.

“We’re unleashing people’s creativity and I’m excited by what can happen,” he said.

Gates also emphasized the program’s new security features, including new controls that allow parents to eavesdrop on their children’s electronic movements and restrict the amount of time they spent on the computer.

“Safety has been a huge element of the investment that we’ve made here,” he said.

Gates bought the Leicester Codex in 1994 for $31 million. It is joined on the British Library’s Web site by the Arundel Codex, one of the more prominent pieces of the British Library’s collection.

This was the first time the two have been displayed together – albeit virtually – since they were separated 500 years ago.

Later, Gates traveled to Edinburgh to announce a deal with the Scottish executive which would provide mentoring and professional training to disadvantaged youth. He was due to meet British Treasury chief

Anyone smelling free-masonry here?
System that will control the way of life on Earth= Computer/Windows = passage to the future (Vista) > Founder Gates gone to Edinburgh:confused: = The origin of Templar Knights’ world-wide rule

I know I am starting a new conspriacy. But lots of similarities though.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

Pls get your conspiracy theory blessed by our resident CT expert, Pakistani Abroad, and then we'll talk! :-)

By the way, rumors of a hidden code in Windows to control the world have been circulating for many years. Not sure if there is more to it than just rumors. Free-mason angle is also thrown around without much thought (its conveniently mysterious). But the way you linked Knight Templars amongst the disadvantaged youth of Edinburgh is actually quite original.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

your knowledge of knights templar seems to be limited, you are also mixing templars with the illuminati, and then both of them with freemasons.
I suggest you read a book like brothers in blood to correct your fact set.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

Faisal, thats how CT start :p the relationship might look cheesy or unreal, but who knows.

Khair, the thing is I often wonder about the success of MS, Gates’ dream of home computing and Internet revolution. Who knows there is a driving force behind all this. Is it impossible?

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

the only fact about Vista worth noting is that it's security features have been developed in collaboration with the NSA.. so the fox is finally incharge of the hen.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

there is no world wide dominance

just install the open source Linux

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

It's a good epiphany and it does make sense too...The Freemasons and Illuminati originating from the Templars...

However, the Templars were based in France, not Edinburgh...

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

^^ freemasons had roots in scotland, then some moved to US. the founding fathers were speculated to be freemasons. i think thats what he might be referring to

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

sorry, both the masons and illuminati predate the templars. Templars found refuge among masons. so they are a group within a group.

as far as the linkages between illuminati and masons, its all public knowledge.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

speculated? its a known fact. there is speculation about a few, but about some its fairly common knowledge that they were. something the masons publically state as well.

as far as freemasons having roots in scotland, you are confusing the scottish rite masons with freemasons as a whole. Scottish rite is a subgroup within Masons as I have explained earlier.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

Fraudz, you guys really need to polish your history skills. Stop reading novels and do some real research :p

Templars were always part of Freemasonry for thousands of years.
Templar got beating in Europe by pope and disappeared, only to reorganized into Scottland where they helped masonry to get into the English Royal family and Church of England. Later colonization and American revolution is a known history.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

smoothguy

I know the history of freemasons and templars very well thank you. Deeper and more intimately than reading books would give you.

Templars did not emerge until after the crusades. Freemasonry existed long before the crusades. simple as that.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

Ooooh... the conspiracy continues, as the masons continue to plot with the Jews. Watch out - there may be freemasons hiding out among you at GS, LOL :)

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

Knight Templars were arranged as group to take participate in crusade, but that doesn't mean templarism didn't exist before that. Whether pre-crusade templars among masons are related to Knight Templars thats a debatable thing. Some believe the templars basically volunteered themselves to masonry's high ranks to be sent to Jerusalem to accomplish certain tasks, which pope was not aware of until a long time after that particular crusade was over. In general Knight Templars were seen as elite brave troops from Northern and Western Europe among the crusaders. Nobody knew about their hidden agenda (if there was one) and writers still use them in their books to spice up their stories. Some say they went there to bring a treasure that only Masons knewof, dated back to Harod and Solomon. Some say they went to Jerusalem to rescue some object or site of (pagan/mason) religous importance. etc etc.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

smooth guy as I said earlier, I have more detailed and intimate knowledge of this than you can get from any book. You are wrong.

while templars hid among freemasons later, they were not a group within free and accepted masons before that, it was after teh crusades.. actually until way after the crusades when the templars were being hunted by the pope. were there templars that were masons, sure, but them as an organized rite i.e. the scottish rite did not happen until much later.

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

There is no harm in what you or I believe regarding mason history. You might be right. All I am doing here is creating new 'conspiracy' with some direct/indirect/remote/hidden/made up links. ab tou theek hai na.

Lets continue with my theory. :D So who think the 'Every home (or in hand these days) will have a PC' dream of Mr. Gates, the birth and mass sweep of Windows OS, ban on use of Windows OS in some EU government offices in the light of allegations of US spying, Internet revolution and they way it has effected not only our lives but our way of thinking as well, could be part of a bigger game plan than what an ordinary person thinks?

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

Fraudia, dude are you a freemason or member of any of the secret socities? Bilderberg? :D
I dont claim to to have any intimate knowledge but did see a couple programs on Discovery about these guys, templars, freemasons, illumnati, bildergerg, there are a few others

Re: Gates and my conspiracy theory

5Abi, I will niether confirm nor deny that :)
