ok, this is what happened.
I planted Holland bulbs back in October in my front yard....about 10 of them. They started blooming last month and are absolutely gorgeous. Half of them were a pure red colour and the other half are yellow and red combined.
They are really tall, practically coming upto my knees .... keep in mind that I'm 5'9!
Anyway, a few weeks ago, I went outside to check on my babies only to see that some thief had come along with a pair of scissors and stole my red tulips! They cut the entire stem and took the whole flower. I just think that is the rudest thing a person can do. I didn't plant flowers just to have them stolen. You know, it would never ever even cross my mind to do that to someone's front yard. If I see a flower I like, I simply admire it....I don't steal it! Anyway......
This being my first time at gardening, I thought the flower would not grow back so I pulled the remainder of the stems and roots out of the soil and threw them out (only what used to be the red flowers). I went to White Rose and planted some Geraniums in their place.
Now, I'm being told that tulips regrow. If you cut them properly, they apparently regrow! I have been searching various gardening sites online and can't find any information to confirm this.
My yellow/red tulips are getting very long and starting to spiral upwards so I think I will have to cut them soon. I want them to regrow though if I do cut them.
Does anybody have any idea whether they regrow, and if so, is there a certain way to cut them to ensure their regrowth? How soon do they regrow?
I don't want to go and ask at White Rose cause I've been there 3 times already this week!

I dont know much about it but i am also planning to get some plants , infact i have always been intressted in gardning but never really had time for that ...now kids are grown up and i have a lil bit free time so i am goning to get some plants in my balcony ...about tulips yes they regrow .dont know anything about roses ...let me ask my amie so i will be back to you :-)
uffffffffff , Mehnaz, tulips are perennials. They re-grow every year.
I planted some alomost ready to blossom roses in my backyard. One each of yellow and peach. They look gorgeous.
Gardening is so relaxing. My memorial day weekend's project is to plant some mint and green chilli peppers. I dont have a very big backyard but it's a nice maintainable size.
mehnazQ je u dont need to cut them and yes they do regrow i mean even if u pull them out and leave them for ages and if u put them back in well a growth meduim they will grow... as far as cuting goes well u dont need to cut them wat happens is that after the flowers r shed the tulips automaticaly start going brown ... i used to watch gardening program :D ... u dont need to cut them but they can look very insightly so i cut them any way (though its recomended u dont)
they also recomend having plenty of space between the tulips but bunching them together looks even nicer ... we have these tulips (kind of pink with white shade) and those things no lie can grop up to my waist ... i am 5'7
PS there is no special way of cuting them just get those hedge cuters and just cut them at the bottom but remmber do it when the leaves look like they r dieing (going brownish). if the poor things r really getting on ur nerves then cut them even if the plant looks fien and dandy.
to be honest its pretty rude if someone stole the flowers i would keep watch next year and kik there ;)
oki i misd one part that is that the tulips gorw once every season usually its liek any fruit liek if u pick mangos u wont get them till next year again so if u cut the tulips they will grow back next year

I didn't know that tulips regrow, although now it does make sense that they would.....otherwise all the bulbs would have to be dug up and new ones replanted every year which seems very hard work.
finally i am moving out of this condo to a house in mississauga, hehe its time to learn some gardening. The house we are moving to, when i went in the backyard, there is a already nice work done with red roses and alot of mint plants. Hopefully i'l find a website which teaches how to do proper gardening :D

i bought it few days ago from Canadian Tire at Albion+Kipling...they had good sales going on for indoor Jasmin and rose plants. They might still have that...don't worry you can get whole big plant in 15 bucks :)

Actually u know what....i gave my mom that jasmin and rose plant on mothers day....she loved it :)

I find gardening very relaxing as well. I just started this past September and I really enjoy it. I just planted some pre-grown flowers into my yard and even that was fun. You move everything around making sure it all looks pretty...for me that was fun! :)

On a side note, I have also been told that planting tulips close together in bunches is more attractive. I spaced my tulips apart but now I will plant more seeds to fill in the gaps in between them.

Oh yeah, have any of you ever had any problems with squirrels???? Apparently, squirrels LOVE tulip seeds! They deliberately hunt for them and have no problem digging them out of the dirt. They dug up quite a few of my tulip seeds.....bloody animals!

Read that bulb plants get their strengh from the leaves of the previous bloom.
The flower once finished should be snipped. They should be cut.
They only last a short time. Week or Two and they are done. Have never come across a repeat bloom Tulip.
