Ganguly's future

**Ganguly said: “I don’t mind not being captain. I’ll just go and play my game. I’m not worried about the captaincy and I’ll bat at any position.” **

That sounds kinda desperate. For a batsman of his caliber, who is only 33 runs short of his 10K runs..this sounds like someone who has hit rock bottom.

I think he still has a couple of more years in him. Considering his batting form, should Indian cricket board persist with him? Should he step down and play as a regular player? How does that affect his legacy? Should players worry about how & when they should leave the game?

Re: Ganguly's future

he needs to prove himself. He can kick back but he needs to be less cocky. Modesty and acceptance is a start. The dude has always tried to outdo himself.

Re: Ganguly's future

the guy has some incredible stats....it's almost strange how one bad year has made him look like a bum and the butt of so many jokes in India.

the guy still has some 25-odd ODI centuries...averages of 40+ in both Tests and ODIs....huge high scores in both Tests/ODIs

i think he should be allowed to continue...i don't think forcing him into retirement after such a great career would be the right thing to do. let him retain some dignity for all his contributions. after all, he is not terribly old and it is very plausible that he can regain form and churn out some great knocks in the future.

but it is certainly frustrating waiting for that to happen.

Re: Ganguly's future

Ganguly is one of the players who are good enough and are exciting to watch when they deliver. He had an escellant form throught most of his career. He might not be as good a player as Tendulkar or Dravid, but still he is as much an important player as they are. He must be provided with a chance both as a player and as a captain, and I am confident that he will not disappoint his fans for too long. He might require some matches to get his form back though.

Re: Ganguly's future

Gangs will surely last till the coming WC' unless there is someone knocking on the door such as S. Rania (playing in current) triangular in srilanka.

however making Dravid a captain ...erhm! I dont think so it was a wise choice, Yes he is a bed rock of Indian cricket, considering Tendulkar, Ganguly and Shewag and others. I dont doubt his abilities at all, he is an all-round player ready for the task at hand. I see this captaincy move as a instant remdy rather than healing it, considering his age and the time frame.

wiser choice would be Shewag or Kaif, captaincy shows it colors when it is groomed with vibrant colors of experience, and mental toughness with time.
