Indian cricket Selection committee has selected Saurav Ganguly for the first test against SL. Reason given by themm is that Saurav is selected for his “all rounder” capability. Yeah Right.. Guy couldnot become allrounder in 10 years of his test career.Now in last years of his carreer he will be all rounder.
With all due respect to Ganguly and whatever he did for nation in last 10 years. This is the lamest reason to get him back.
To top that… Zaheer is not selected inspite of his brilliant bowling in Demestic Cricket. Reason : Ganguly can help with bowling using his Medium pace bolwing…

If BBCI chairman start commenting 2 days before the selection meeting that Ganguly will make a comback. Then you know who is making the calls. Definitly not selectors.
The baniyaas in the board have now even shed the pretension of being professionals.
Imazine, even before the selection committee met - the clown Ranbir Singh Mahendra and Dalmiya started making noises about why Ganguly should not be ignored. Isn't that the job of the selection committee ?
And what has Gangu done from a cricketing perspective :
He scored a duck in each innings of the recent Duleep Trophy game(for good measure, it was Zaheer who bowled him on both occasions). Oh yeah...he scored the brilliant century in 100000 balls against the world class Zimbabwe attack a couple of months back - as Mahendra reminded the press recently.
Ofcourse, Gangu took 5 wickets in an innings in the nick of time aiding the selectors discover the "all rounder" in him....CRAP. His inclusion will only disrupt the momentum and destabilize the Indian side... I hope he fails so we can see the last of him.
Feel sorry for Zaheer. He is a talented player and has been performing brilliantly in domestic cricket recently ...unfortunately he does not have a baniyaa godfather like Dalmiya.
I think the naming of the squad prior to the culcutta match is only to pacify all those proud bongs, who think Ganguly is next to bradman.
Knowing well the emotions of the general public of culcutta, i think they just took him to show that they care for their dada.
I am of the opinion that the selectors should show some guts and select a good fighting team rather than select players based on blackmail.
In my opinion, he is still a better player of spin bowling than Yuvraj and murali is not an easy customer in tests by any means. So maybe just maybe Ganguly will grab his undeserving chance.
the "cleverness" or uncleverness because i caught the, at least i think i have. i think they are putting even more pressure on him by saying he was selected as all rounder, they just want 2 put em in as allrounder, so it will be easy for them to dispense of him!
Well what an irony, when ganguly got selected for England tour in 1996, he didn't deserve it and everyone knew he got in because of parchi. But to give credit to the guy, he took his chances with both hands and ended up being most succesful indian captain. Now, life has come full circle for Ganguly and he gets into the side again when he didn't deserve to.It remains to be seen what his response will be this time.
Personally I would like to see him go out on a high note with his head held high.The guy has done so much for Indian cricket that he deserves a decent farewell.I admit he doesn't fit into the scheme of things for future but as Kapil Dev said, everyone hates to see a proud guy like him reduced to a wreck begging for a place in the team.He is the guy who turned a bunch of losers and chokers into a self-believing fighting unit.for that contribution alone he should go down in history as the best indian captain "till date"(I hope Dravid surpasses him). What I would love to see is Ganguly scoring lot of runs and then quitting.this way he would redeem his pride and make way for the youngsters, and will be remembered in history for all his positives.
