**Imran offers sympathy to Ganguly **](BBC SPORT | Cricket | Other International | India | Ganguly free to face South Africa)

Pakistan legends Imran Khan and Wasim Akram have offered support to Sourav Ganguly after he received a two-Test ban for India’s slow bowling.
The home side took an hour longer than scheduled to bowl their overs against Pakistan in Saturday’s one-day match.

“A lot of time was spent in trying to keep the ball dry and also in changing it,” Imran told the Hindustan Times.

“Sourav has my sympathies and I think this was an occasion on which the referee could have shown leniency.”

Heavy dew under the floodlights in Calcutta meant the ball had to be changed eight times during the Pakistan innings.

My advice is to leave Ganguly and the team alone

Wasim Akram
International Cricket Council match referee Clive Lloyd gave an allowance of 24 minutes for stoppages but ruled India were still five overs short.

An unprecedented punishment was handed out because Ganguly was fined for a similar reason earlier this year, during a one-day match in Karachi.

Wasim said he hoped the Indian cricket board would retain faith in Ganguly despite the recent Test series defeat to India, and Saturday’s six-wicket defeat to their arch-rivals.

“My advice is to leave Ganguly and the team alone,” he said.

“Give him the support and I am sure he will come back. The team is too good to fail for long.”

India play two Tests against South Africa, starting in Kanpur on Saturday.

Vice-captain Rahul Dravid will lead the hosts if an appeal against Ganguly’s suspension is rejected.

After his struggles with thigh and groin injuries this year, Ganguly will have missed six of India’s last nine Tests.

I dont know abt imran, but i do feel that wasim is inclined a lot towards india.....why doesnt he officially start coaching the indian team...he has already made a fine bowler out of pathan...

pathetic excuse by lyod...just doesn't makes a sense...anyway's I wouldn't be surprised if Ganguly plays in the 1st test

he will be playing the first test as the ICC has suspended the ban - BCCI has appealed the ban..

Re: Ganguly suspended for 2 Tests against S Africa

but now the ban has been postponed to a later date…

no the ban hasn't been suspended....baad mein apply hoga.....yani apeal jari hai......lekin ban ka fasila baad mein liya jae ga

I believe Dravid should be made captain now, Ganguly has not been contributing with the bat for a LONG time now! Plus, Dravid did lead the side well in his absence.

Hi!

I agree tht ganguly has been a good captain but his failings with the bat cannot be ignored for a long time. Dravid also led india to victory over australia ( barring the pitch drama) by using the spinners well and not bringing on kumble but sticking with murli kartik. So, a change might be good. :)

well..change might be good....but we don't want any good for india...lol

lol....:D

they need to rethink abt the law, 2 matches ban is too much. Plus its not ust captain's fault alone. Ban the whole team...lol:)
