Sourav Ganguly has been left out of India’s 15-man one-day side for the forthcoming five matches against Pakistan beginning at Peshawar on February 6.

Ganguly, previously dropped from the one-day side for back-to-back series against Sri Lanka and South Africa at home, will return to India with Parthiv Patel, VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble and Wasim Jaffer after the ongoing third Test at Karachi. Zaheer Khan, the left-hand fast bowler, has been included in the squad announced by the Indian board today, the only change to the side that drew 2-2 with South Africa in November.

Commenting on Ganguly’s exclusion, Niranjan Shah, the BCCI secretary, said that it was a collective decision to retain a winning combination in the shorter version of the game. “We decided to retain the combination that played against Sri Lanka and South Africa. This is the best team that we have chosen,” he told reporters in Mumbai today while conceding that Ganguly’s name was discussed in the selection meeting.

Shah also justified the presence of five fast bowlers - Zaheer, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Rudra Pratap Singh, and Sreesanth - by saying that it was a move based on the conditions. “We decided to go in with five fast bowlers considering the wickets in Pakistan,” he said. He maintained that John Gloster, the team physio, had cleared Sreesanth rom any injury concerns but added that “VRV [Singh] and [Ashish] Nehra were discussed but the duo was ruled out due to fitness concerns.” Shah was hesitant to comment on whether the selectors’ decision signified the end of the one-day road for Ganguly, Laxman and Kumble.

India play five one-day internationals against Pakistan. Following the opener at Peshawar, the venues selected are Rawalpindi (Feb 11), Lahore (Feb 13), Multan (Feb 16) and Karachi (Feb 19).

Indian ODI Squad: Rahul Dravid (capt), Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag (vice-capt), Yuvraj Singh, Mohammad Kaif, Suresh Raina, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan, Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, R P Singh, Murali Kartik, Harbhajan Singh, S Sreesanth.

they shud’ve atleast waited for 2morrow n then decide whether ganguly shud play or no.this is simply ridiculous, treating ur most successful captain like this :nook:

Re: Ganguly left out of one-day squad

ppl are getting used to this pattern. Now gangs will not want to play well in the test... have to see tonight ;)

Re: Ganguly left out of one-day squad

i think he will either play really slow until he gets 70-80
or
be bowled straight away by the new ball

Re: Ganguly left out of one-day squad

i think he shud be out straight away to pay back the selectors for dropping him cuz the indian batting is really depending on him now

Re: Ganguly left out of one-day squad

not really its depending on dhoni

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

This is a team that can only be selected by morons.

In a one-day series that is likely to be dominated by batsmen and 300+scores, the selectors have packed the side with at least 2 mediocre pace bowlers (Agarkar & Sreesanth), 2 largely ineffective spinners against Pak (Karthik & Harbhajan) and a neither-here-nor-there opener(Gambhir).

Were the selectors on dope when they selected this team ?

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

who is Suresh Raina

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

believe since both teams have done enough to replicate each others perfomance … since PCB is atleast halfway responsible for the Pitches and the Farce sofar … it needed the BCCI to come up with something even more stupid :hehe:

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

see now he scored more than tendulkar, laxman, dravid n sehwag.in the important thing is he wasnt scared of facing shoaib

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

He is too India what Johnty Rhodes was to South Africans.

Pust Kaif and Yuvi top shame with his fielding.

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

:D :D

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

why dont you also tell us what else those "morons" could have done....i mean what other options they have?

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

I have seen the kid field. Let's not get carried away now, shall we?

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

In Oneday's there is substitution rule, hence all rounders get pref over others........

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

This is SAD dude...

Re: Ganguly Left out of one day squad

Ganguly Left out of one day squad

Like, should we care???

I don't want to be unnecessarily harsh or critical, but all that discussion about this one has-been dude, is getting really boring. Steve Waugh was dropped from Aussie side for lack of performance/no place in the team, and even that didn't garner so much bakbak.
