The closest he came to doing that was in the Madras Test against Akram’s Pak Team.
Even then, he threw away his wicket after taking India to the brink of victory and India of course end up losing the match.

Guys,
I agree with funguy that Laxman would be the "axed" one most probably in the next test @ Mohali. Apart from his 90 in Faisalabad test, he has looked really short of runs and may be it's time to hit the domestic circuit to get back in form.

One more thing, don't even think about axing Tendulkar. There was a huge uproar in Calcutta when Ganguly was axed and you can't even think what might happen to Chappell if Tendulkar is axed out.
