Some of the artifects belonging to Mahatama Gandhi will be on auction next month in New York. While it comes as exciting news to those who will be betting to obtain perhaps an artifect of the few that are auctioned, there are those who are opposed it. Among those opposed to it is Gandhi’s grandson Tushar Gandhi.
He is not against the auction, as it is. But rather the idea that the heritage will be distributed among varying individuals who may or may not oblige to the call for artifects being returned to India and the People of India.
It is a valid call, ofcourse. One’s heritage is best suited in its homeland as the citizens’ property. So, Tushar Gandhi has taken it upon himself to raise funds and possibly outbid others who may be present at the Auction. He asks all Indians to help him raise the money.
The purpose of this background, and the thread is to ask how you feel about it? What will you (if given the opportunity) do to help Tushar achieve his objective of keeping Gandhi artifects within India? Is it alright to auction those items? Why and/or why not?
