Gaming Rig specs

Have you built one recently? When was the last one you built?

Current specs, and/or recommendations please.

This might be silly, and I probably will not use even 10% of the potential, but it has been over 6-7 years since I last built my rig with the intention of making it a respectable gaming rig (at the time it probably was). Used it for said purpose for a few months, but since then it has just been a really well-built workhorse of a PC for general purpose.

I now feel the urge to use the same case and upgrade the internals, but I’m not sure what is a less than overkill, but solid set up for next coming years. I really probably would play COD, or GTA on it. The only two games which I have some interest in.

Currently:

EVGA 790i SLI Ultra FTW MB
Q9860 Core2Quad Processor
Viper 4GB DDR3-1333 Ram
GT8600 Sli-Bridged (2x) totaling 1GB
Ultra 750W PSU
Zalman Coolers on GPU, CPU
Cooler Master Sniper CPU Case

Re: Gaming Rig specs

I'm much of a PC gamer myself. Actually I play mostly retro games on it. The gaming PCs, I've seen in recent years had between 8 and 16GB memory. Apart from this I don't really know too much about them, but I would guess that for the next few years, this should be ok for the upcoming games.

Re: Gaming Rig specs

Well, I am not sure if your 4G RAM and 1GB video will cut it for today’s games. Any time you want to talk about gaming rig, it starts with the case. What you rockin?

I built new PC when the x99 mobos came out late last year:

Re: Gaming Rig specs

^^WOW!! That is a killer combination. Do you mind sharing the total price on it as well?

Re: Gaming Rig specs

Well, price changes on these components very often. I believe the case I have is the R4 not R5 so it was on sale, about $50 cheaper. Anyway, everything together came to around $2200+.
