for me, it doesn’t count if it’s regular music that has been used in games i.e. “oh there are a bunch of prodigy tracks, woo. hoo.”

Nobuo Uematsu’s stuff for Final Fantasy is right up there. Gaming just really isn’t the same anymore. No final fantasy has been so cruel to the player as the end of FFVII disc one and the music was perfect… and makes for a memorable gaming experience.

The Morrowind main theme was inspired because even though half the time you weren’t doing anything epic, at least the music was. They didn’t manage to top that with Oblivion.

Now excuse me whilst I go and cry about the end of that disc and that everything is blaaah now.

I really liked Aeris too. As for game OST’s, I don’t really find any particularly memorable. And yesterday I kept reading this topic title as Game’s ODSTs.

I have lots of memorable ones, FFVI and VII as above. FFVIII was very much about the music too. Morrowind, Ocarina of Time, Chrono Trigger, Hitman Silent Assassin, PoP Sands of Time.. probably more that I can think of either.

You might not remember them very well afetrward but a good soundtrack sets the tone of the gameplay, especially if they mean it to be an immersive experience.
