Game developers

What made you first want to develop a game? Where did you start with developing both the mechanics and the theme? Where did some of the inspiration come from for the game?

Re: Game developers

I wouldn't call anything I've developed so far a game, but more like prototypes with simple mechanics that my niece and nephew would enjoy playing. So the inspirations came from the type of stuff I knew they'd enjoy (driving, flying).

Re: Game developers

^ Cool.

I've never developed a game. Not really had the opportunity.

Re: Game developers

I am going through the process of developing games since it is a necessary module at my course so yeah I did because I had too otherwise I never played games before.

Re: Game developers

Well it's more of a time issue for me. That, and good resources for learning. I've found that some of the "official" documentation (well the stuff that came with the tools) also had errors in it. Still, if i had more time for it, I would like to get into it again.

Re: Game developers

Yes, time is always an issue. :bummer:

Re: Game developers

Our game is almost ready, the project is due in MAY, can’t wait to show you guys. :aisha:

Re: Game developers

I’m looking forward to seeing it. What kind of game is it? From your previous posts (whatever I remember anyway), it’s a mobile game played with a touchscreen. Android if I remember correctly.

Re: Game developers

Looking forwards to seeing it

Re: Game developers

Finally submitted the Game project, had the very last presentation last week. The game looks sick, it is a physics puzzled game related to environment for mobile phone, you can play on PC too. This project opened my eyes into gaming world but I am still not going into gaming career, 3 people are going into gaming career after doing this project. The team was based on 6 boys and one girl me, went through hard time since we were all new to game development plus we picked a hard gaming engine to develop our game , spent hours to learn the new software as we had regular university and other modules. The bad thing about it was that it took us whole year to do. I 'll post it for you guys once I am done with exams next week.

Re: Game developers

Nice. You guys developed it using Unity, right? I’d like to learn that too. That, some Direct X and Open GL. XNA is unfortunately no longer going to be updated and is not officially supported in the new Visual Studio :frowning:

Re: Game developers

Good luck Lilly

Congrats lilly for the game, I never did any professional game development, but was part of some projects involving the unity engine, what was the game engine you used?

When I started my CS major, I wanted to be a game developer, all my focus was there, then it shifted to security things.

Re: Game developers

I was going to say if you’re interested in a job as a game developer I could hook you up.

My friend works at Rockstar. And is also a recruiter.

Re: Game developers

You need to show us the game Lilly!!!

^ game and its source code for science , let us see your programming skills

Re: Game developers

Yeah We prepared first prototype in Stencyl, it was easy , most of the things were already built in, had to just drag and drop, all we had to do is use Javascript to link the objects. Later on, we thought to challenge ourselves and went for Unity. It was new to us, spent some hours learning it and finally we made it.

I have used OpenGL for Graphics, generated robot in OpenGL but never used it for game development.

We used Unity as well. Like I did Game Development this year, we will do individual game development next year, I have to develop another game on my own. And if I choose my final year project about game development then YOO, I am done. Easy life for me plus final year project won’t be hard for me but I don’t want to choose it as a future career, I don’t like games much. :bummer: I need to make my mind up,stuck.

My own friend is working with Rockstar , earning good , kinda loads of money but I am not interested.

Yeah

Yeah can’t give the code :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Game developers

Posting the screenshots of my game. Please DO Not Quote because our project hasn’t been marked yet. I 'll upload the game once my project has been marked,we haven’t even put it online yet.

Re: Game developers

Nice. Looking forward to seeing the game.

Re: Game developers

Those are some really cool graphics for a university project. I love the firey effect in the last picture. Good job Lilly!
