gahhhh I hate wedding shopping!!!!!

Alright maybe the title is a little too dramatic but its just to catch everyone’s attention.

This is a two part post but first I should probably introduce myself.

I have been a silent reader of GS for couple of months now. Love reading everyone’s opinions on various issues- keeps me connected to Pakistan too, in a way. I got Nikkah-fied this past spring in Pakistan and the wedding is set to be sometime this winter- january, perhaps feb so here I am in the wedding forum, trying to get an idea on how to start my wedding shopping.

Now firstly, AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO FINDS PAKISTANI WEDDING DRESSES RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE? urggh. I won’t get on a high horse here and pass judgements on people who love to splurge. good for them for doing what makes them happy. But personally, I cannot, for the life in me, justify spending 4-5K on a dress, let alone those super high end bridal dresses that cost 10K and above. Almost, everywhere I have looked or inquired about a dress, I have gotten quotes of 3K and above. I can easily afford that but I cant justify it to myself.I rather save that money for something else- a vacation, umrah, towards a house payment, savings..etc. How do people in Pakistan even afford such expensive dresses? I went back this year for couple of weeks and I was shocked to see how pricey everything is over there…10K for or so for lawn?made me lol. And the rude so called originally “designers” to top it all of..urghhh. I am just gonna save all my energy and frustration about this for another blog post or something…

Now to my second issue…is that I do need a dress. I have given myself a budget of 1k- which is roughly 1 lac in pakistani currency. And i would like to keep and stick to it. so I need ideas, guidance and recommendations. I can shop in Lahore, faisalabad, Islamabad and silakot. Has anyone gotten anything made with this budget and been happy with it. Help!

Re: gahhhh I hate wedding shopping!!!

I don’t think you are the only one to feel this way. It’s not always about whether you can afford something or not but whether it’s money well spent etc.

You can definitely get something nice without spending huge amounts, either don’t go for designers and go for boutiques were you can haggle, or find less well known designers who don’t overcharge. 1k might be doable but prices have risen so much in the last few years that I think 1.5 to 2k is more realistic for a decent bridal with pure fabrics and neat work.

I’ve been using Malaika Adnan for years and have recommended her in the past on here. Another user had her bridal and walima joray made from her a few years back and there is a review. My bro’s wedding is around the corner and Malaika has made my SILs jora (it was a combined effort in designing between myself and Malaika and she did an awesome job creating what I had envisioned mA), and she also made outfits for my cousins to wear. I can give you more details regarding pricing etc via pm.

Otherwise there some highly recommended home based designers on here who would be able to make your outfit.

Glad that you agree.! And Thank you so much for all the info. I am definitely going to check out malaika's dresses...maybe it will workout for me too. BTW please do PM me the pricing and if possible, pictures as well. :)
