Gadhafi's son: We should be more like Israel

I’m a little shocked to find that their exists at least one normal person in the leadership of an arab country. This man speaks the truth and all the arabs and muslims should pay heed.

Gadhafi’s son says Libyan Jews entitled to compensation

By Zvi Bar’el, Haaretz Correspondent, and AP

Libyan Jews will be able to receive compensation for property confiscated when they left the country, the son of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi told the Egyptian weekly Al-Ahram Al-Arabi.

Saif al-Islam Gadhafi also invited Libyan Jews to return, saying Libya is “their country and their original homeland.”

Gadhafi said this would help solve the Palestinian problem, as the returning Libyan Jews could leave their homes to the Palestinians.

Like if this is ever going to happen..people returning, or others getting the homes.

Re: Re: Gadhafi’s son: We should be more like Israel

I don’t think the actuality of returning is as important as the symbolism behind the recognition that a great number of jews became displaced refugees following the partition of Palestine in 1947 due to policies of Arab states.

I have previously (sometime ago) started a thread on the forgotten or ignored refugees in the context of discussing the so-called “right of return” demanded by Palestinians in peace negotiations with Israel. Of course, most anti-Israelis deny that any large scale displacement occured preferring only to talk about and/or recognize displaced Palestinians.

All sides need to recognize that historical wrongs have been perpetrated upon and by all sides in the conflict. The recognition by Libya of a right of return or in the alternative compensation for confiscated property is huge and could form the basis for similar solutions in the larger context of an Israeli/Paelstinian accord.

First, it renounces WMD and now this. Who would ever have thought that Libya might emerge as a shining example of progressive thought in the Arab world.

Quackdhafi's should go ahead and recognize Israel then.

Well Libya didn't have to do much to become a shiny example..considering the bottom dwellers of progressive thought that the arab world consists of.

Isnt this nice. A leader does whatever the US wants and he is now a shining example. Next you will say Asad is a shining example if he accepts israel.

^you can say that again! According to double western standards If you pro west you man of peace if you disagree with amerikkkan colonial policy you are terrorist and danger to world!

I now think I have heard every cockamamie theory possible advanced on Gupshup. Col. Quadaffi being portrayed as ** "pro west!!!" ** Imagine that.

It seems as if anyone in the world who does something positive and in the interest of humanity all of a sudden becomes a western stooge if what he did also is something the US likes. The positive things that Libya has done recently doesn't make Quadaffi a great guy and/or excuse his past. But, if he can change and do some unexpectedly progressive and positive things, it doesn't make him a US stooge either. And, everyone should welcome and applaud the steps he is making to rejoin the civilized world.
