G8/G20 Summit

So fellow Torontonians - how many of you are impacted by the upcoming G20 summit? Will you be going into work/working from home or taking a vacation day?

Those actually commuting downtown - how will you be making your way downtown?

Re: G8/G20 Summit

Bump.

Really, none of my fellow compatriots in T.Dot are affected by the summit? I’m surprised :hmmm:

Re: G8/G20 Summit

I suppose so sehrysh ... i don't think that many people live in downtown core

Re: G8/G20 Summit

I don't even care about that summit.

Re: G8/G20 Summit

Lot is happening in downtown. Yes potentially some might have to work offsite or from home. Specially on June 23 and 24.

We’re still waiting for direction from management. They’re dicussing everyone working from home or off-site on the 24th and 25th - but for earlier in the week, they’re taking a wait and watch approach.

Kicker is we’re not in the restricted area but just off of it - so in a way, our space is more at risk of being targeted by the protestors

The thing is, we can’t treat the days as vacation since we’re still expected to be available without the resources to do so.

I have a friend who’s due to have her baby that week - she’s panicking because she lives in downtown and that’s where her hospital is. She’s praying the baby is a week late. Poor thing!

Re: G8/G20 Summit

ditched the summit on time. Moved to Milton a week ago. I'll still be travelling towards downtown for work but up-to 427 area :)

Sehrysh, If you work in downtown, good luck with that. Try to work from home for 2-3 days or get ready to spend hours on Gardner and 401. Better get TTC/GO for next couple of weeks.

On Friday I was hit by a "dry run security convoy" on 427 and they actually blocked all lanes. I crossed 427 from 401 to Garner in almost 40 minutes when it normally takes 5-7 minutes...

I think we’ll all know least by June 15 hopefully. PATH will also be closed partially and I don’t know if I want to walk outside on Bay Street, lets see.
Do you work in core?
Your friend should definitely look at other options. It will get chaotic.

Ditto. Although I find the whole security issue very sad/amusing.

I work on the banking corner - Bay and King

We’ve heard rumours that access to Union will be restricted - they may limit entry/exit to a single or just a few doors - can things get any worse - imagine all of those people tried to squeeze through a few entrances.

And apparently the GO trains will be subject to rolling stops, which means further delays.

Forget about the actual dollar cost of paying for security, the federal government has not even factored in loss of business for the companies whose work and productivity will be lost.

Re: G8/G20 Summit

oh and if you are working, try to get sneak peek into $2Million Muskoka lake :)

How stupid is that? Those are my tax dollars paying for the whismy of our lame PM!!!

We need another election ASAP to get that guy out of power. I think the PM-ship has gone to his head

Re: G8/G20 Summit

You cant get early elections. Pension of more than 50% of members (from both side) has not matured yet. No one will push for election when result is forfeiting their golden pension. So sit back and relax in Muskoka lake in Direct Energy center :)

PS: This is one of many things I burn my blood on. What a waste of my Tax $. Other things that annoy me most are the cab drivers and people working on cash, hiding income and not paying tax and on top of it, taking monthly grant and subsidy from govt only to buy new gold jewlery for wife or new iphone for self while I am working my @$$ off to get all these things... Sometime I just feel like walking into CRA office and report these guys...but ...aahhh

Re: G8/G20 Summit

Those of you who thought that just because you live or work outside downtown Toronto’s restricted red and yellow zones, you would be immune to the nightmare that is the Summit - even you will not be spared the mayhem resulting from the G8/G20 Summit.

Get ready for traffic jams:

Re: G8/G20 Summit

I dont really care about the G20 summit..However I do care about my dad because he'll be working downtown :(

199 Baystreet here. :(

Hoping that all will be well. Recieved my pass today. Despite that, not intending to show up on June 26 and 27 though.

Good luck to all stuck in traffic. Keep a water bottle to fight dehydration and lots of songs handy. :)

Re: G8/G20 Summit

stupid summit

stupid rich leader trying to find schemes to make them even more rich

stupid protesters that vandalize and make themselves look even more stupid

stupid time to do a summit - our summer is for only 2 months mr harper...thanks for ruining another good weekend. canada is known for our winters...invite your friends then.

Re: G8/G20 Summit

not really affected at all......except enjoying watching all the private jets for the delegates come in.

I work in a building opposite Pearson International and have a beautiful view of the runways.

Am currently waiting for Air Force One to approach......all the planes are landing from the lake side so they come straight at me.....LOL.

I work at the same intersection - we were told to stay home today and tomorrow. They didn’t want us downtown and in fact didn’t give us an option as they don’t want to risk their staff - they’re afraid of the lawsuits if something goes wrong. They have critical staff working at other locations - but as my boss reassured me time and again - I’m not business critical - the firm has no issues surviving without my on-site presence

I thought that all of the banks on that corner and the block south of it had their staff at home, as did the lawfirms. Who’s your employer?

Re: G8/G20 Summit

^ Same here...was told to stay at home and not show up at work :D
Working from home is such a pain...too many distractions lol
Will be going back to work on Tuesday as I heard there will still be protests on Monday.
So these so called "Head of States" will be meeting each other to chit chat for merely few hours and we pay the price in the form of $1.2B, business losses and plus all the hassle!!
They even transferred all the patients from St Michael and other DT hospitals to suburbs... to have empty beds ready...just imagine.
