Free Trade? Read up on Oxfam and the Make Trade Fair program. Damn good program and they do alot of work to prove what the US and EU subsidies are determental to the African Economies.
Debt? The G-8 can't wipe out African debt as it is close to 1 trillion dollars and most of it is not even from the G-8. They are from International Financing Insitutions (IFIs).

It is not a competition but you did make it personal. The comment about 10 pounds was to make you realise that this endevour was fruitless at best as it does nothing to help the african people.

CM the reason for Miss Mohabbat and Bob Geldofs little "do" was to raise awareness, in this modern world where people are interested in only themselves it is very difficult to get peopel attention and hold it.
I think what they have done has acheived its purpose.
I do understand what you have to say but in this instance handing money to the causes that you mentioned will not acheive what Miss M and Bob want.

CM sweatpea, Oxfam obviously cared about the march in Edinburgh otherwise they themselves would not have been there. I wonder if they spent any of your donated $$'s on getting to Edinburgh, i would demand a refund if i were you.

Knowing oxfam well enough they would have never spent money to be there. Oxfam has a local chapter in each nation and they would be sponsered by some agency or foundation to be there. Additionally all those present would be volunteers not paid staff. Lastly money donated is not placed towards administrative expenses of Oxfam. That is for charitable work. Administrative expenses are covered with the normal/fixed income.
Lazy they had this 20 years ago. It made no difference. Why would it make a difference now? Additionally people know all about this if they read the news. It is all in the news on a daily basis. But people ignore it because it is easier too. Next week Live 8 will be seen as over-rated and long forgotten. It was one hell of a party that is all.

and granted in some cases, perhaps nearly all cases the desired result isnt entirly achieved however if it goes a small way to start it them that can only be a good thing...no?
you may be write about next week Live 8 being old news. in this day people have attention spans similar to goldfish....most people have forgotten the Tsunami effort..... but it doesnt mean that it wasnt worth doing.

Now tell me this. Kofi Annan made a trip to Sudan and to Rwanda to stop the genocide. Did it stop? Nope. It still continues. The fact that important or famous people showed up does not change the fact that there has been no change and will be no change in the policies of the G-8 when it comes to africa. All the changes were made before the Live 8 plan was even decided.
Lazy its very simple. People protest all the time, but they do not work. Vietnam was protested for a good decade and even then the US backed off when their forces were over run. I judge on action not on intent. After all the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
Its a very simple equation. If you want to help donate money. If you don't want to help go to a protest and get pissed (ie drunk). That is what this march was all about a good fun time.
Its about time these people put their money where their mouth is and i refer to all of those who went to Live 8 and the march. Donate 10 dollars a month each - every one of them - and Africa will not have that great a poverty issue.
But no. They rather protest feed their own egos and keep their bank accounts for themselves. Nothing more than a bunch of self-serving hypocrits.

Your $$'s must mean a lot to Oxfam, cos god forbid any of the 200,000 that attened Live 8 and 225,000 that marched in Edinburgh gave any money whatsoever. Imagine what Oxfam would do then.
oh and all those millions of people in Moscow, Tokyo, Philly, Paris, Berlin, Toronto and Cornwall…i bet none of them have ever given anything in the name of charity..greedy buggers

Strawmans, flaming and logical fallacies. I shouldn’t expect anything more or should that be less from the GS. The issue is very simple. Bob and whoever was there should put their money where their mouth is. 1 million dollars for these rock stars amounts to nothing. Yet you do not see them contributing. Bill Gates (satan himself) is better than them 
They rather under take publicity stunts which boost their own image.
If they complied any statistics for this march i can bet you whatever sum you want that 50% of those who attended have never contributed in anyway to Africa and its cause.
This i repeat was a feel good march to appease individual egos.

Every now and then i throw you a bone to play with. Its amazing how one thread can make you all act like bafoons and then when a post a thread like on the Geneva convention you all run away with your tails between your legs. Its an interesting social experiment to see how what threads and what i say illicits what kind of emotional responses from you lot.
