Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

Its very important to be critical when reading such things. I would love to read the actual article that was published in a scientific journal, which i have a feeling doesn't exist. I just did a little serach on Dr Konstantinos Manolopoulos and found no such publications.

"Big behinds are preferable to extra fat around the waistline, which gives no such protection, the Oxford team said."

This is a direct quote form the article notice how it says "preferable to extra fat around the waistline".

was this written by Dr Anthony Ray M.D. by any chance? I am familiar with his previous scholarly writings on the same subject, in fact his first work on this topic appeared almost 2 decades ago in 1992. It was widely acclaimed in certain circles and in many ways helped establish him, although his research spanned numerous other areas as well. I believe he was knighted as well.

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

Just like fresh fruit. If its firm and juicy its healthy for you :D
You don't have be doc. to tell that.

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

Just want to add, it is true that "apple" shape (fat around waistline) individuals have higher risk of cardiovascular disease compared to "pear" shaped (fat in thighs and bum). My point was that we should not try to get big bums after reading this article thinking its healthy to have fatty bums.

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

Dr. Anthony Ray M.D. may disagree.

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

oh if u want to read his work, just google anthony ray, he appears second on the results, you will not miss it

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

Damn Beyonce and I have nothing to worry about innit :smooth:

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

In ancient times, kings used to send those soldiers as ambassadors to other kingdoms who had some fat reserves in their body a.k.a heavy/big bums - because in those days ambassadors had to ride on the horse for thousands of miles which they were to cover in some weeks or so. There was no guarantee of food on the way so they used to carry some food which they could and also found out that some fat stored in the body may provide them some extra energy to live untill they come back to their home. That was truly scintific. But we humans have a habbit of mistaking all the historic rituals wrong. Some percentage of fat is fine, anything excess to it is not healthy.

best,

Disagree to what exactly? I mean to my statement that waist fat is more dangerous(which is what the posted article says as well but in a twisted fashion) or we should not aim for "fatty bums" lol

I just googled it and didn't find anything, you mind giving me link to his page although a scientific journal article would be better

WIPER i agree with you that some percent of fat is good actually quite some percent (i dont remember the number now) but excess is not healthy

<20%

So now there is a scientific reason to love latinas. Wow.

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

I love my curves even if I say so myself whereas my sisters are just ironing boards lol anyway its all good if you're not overweight!

So excess fat on buns, thighs and tummy is a definite no no!

Agreed.

Just a random link here,

Pear Shape vs.. Apple Shape: Which is Healthier? | Healthmad

…but it is well known that apple shaped body is less healthy. By the way any excess fat is not good. Fat cells have tendency to reduce the effect of natural insulin and diabetes can still affect those who have extra fat.

Genetic differences may play role in different distribution of fat cells/body shapes and also risk of heart diseases.

Will read about Dr. Ray and curious as to what he said.

Please also read about:

Visceral (inside body cavities) versus peripheral (skin) fat

White versus brown fat cells if interested.

For fat cells, brown is better, white is worthless…

1- I dont know you will have to ask Anthony Ray

2- Anthony Ray may be better known by the other name he goes by ...Sir Mix-a-lot, and his 1992 work on this topic is highly acclaimed.

goes something like

I like big butts and I can not lie
you other brothers can deny..

Its actually #3.

:D

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

when i looked at it he was at #2 :) but thanks

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

haha Dr. Anthony Ray, i found him not what i was expecting!

Re: FYI - Big bums are healthy!

although I have to say even when they play/played that song and chicas jump on the dance floor with grrrl power and all that, they kind of miss the part where he says

when a girl walks in with an itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face..

they ignore the itty bitty waist part.

so you see canadiandesigirl, anthony ray is in agreement with you :)
