Assalamo Alaikum,
I invite Muslim women living across
North America to contribute to one of the art pieces for my solo exhibit to be held at Ceres Gallery, in Chelsea, NYC. Inshallah!
The Show Theme:
This new work titled ‘Liberated’ reflects my belief in the self empowering identity of American Muslim women. The work creates an exciting visual interplay of popular icons and the ‘hijab,’ highlighting the role of individual practices in the shaping of a unique national identity.
The ‘Hijab Collection’ Piece :
For one of the projects within this show, I will display a group of scaves, that I am collecting from various Muslim women accross America.
I am requesting you to donate one of your headscarfs for this purpose. This ACT OF GIVING A SCARF symbolises your support for my position (mentioned above). Each scarf will be identified by its owner (first name only), their city of residence and occupation. Your presence (the scarf) will validate and empower this exhibition. It will represent that I am only one of the many many women who believe and wear the hijab as an act of faith.
What Do You Need to Do
Please select one of your Hijabs and mail it to the following address

There is no specific requirements for what the scarf should be like…though the things mentioned below might help you choose better.
* it may have a special meaning for you, (you can write about it on a piece of paper and send along.)
* It may be one which you wore at a special memorable occasion: your first hijab? , your wedding? your graduation? first day at work or something entirely more personal?.
* a scarf that you may personalise with embroidering your name..or putting your signature on it?
* or just a lively colorful scarf!
Please inlude your name (Only the first name will be included for the show), location, email address, occupation, and description(optional) in the mailing.
Eligibility:
You have to be a Muslim woman living or working in North America to participate.
Muslim women who wear the hijab with their own free will, or support the right to wear the hijab, may particpate.
Deadlines:
Please reply to [email protected] latest by October 30th, informing me that you will be contributing a hijab. Then we can sort out the datails about how the heascarf would get here. I am willing to cover the cost of mailing.
As I must get the display ready as soon as possible, Inshallah, I will need the Hijab be mailed no later than Nov 5th.
Return of Scarves:
Unfortunately, I will not be able to return the scarves, as I am unsure of the time I will have to keep them. I am hoping I’ll show them at other venues.
To Show my appreciation
:
In appreciation of your support, Inshallah, the first 50 senders will get an actual head scarf printed with my original artwork, the rest will get a print of one of my artworks. Also a photograph documenting the piece in the gallery will be mailed to each contributor.
