I realized I haven’t been on here for a year - time flies! We (my husband and I) are in the process of purchasing a new home, insha’allah and of course along with that comes buying furniture. I love West Elm and Restoration Hardware with a touch of modern/contemporary. Restoration Hardware is absolutely out of my budget but I thought of buying furniture from Pakistan.
Does anyone have experience with getting furniture customized over there or any good stores you can recommend? I’m not looking for the traditional Pakistani furniture but something more modern with a little glam and wood.
For the price you're going to pay for shipping/container charges, you're better off just buying from West Elm. About 50% of my house is furnished from West Elm and they run amazing sale...I can tell you exactly when their 20% off sales run lol
Also, I've seen homes here in the US furnished with modern/contemporary furniture shipped from Pakistan and for some reason, it just doesn't work in the houses here.
Thanks kattichic! I constantly have my eye on west elms site :) I just assumed that furniture would be more affordable over there including the shipping. Years ago my parents bought furniture for their whole home from Pak and it cost them max $15K. Whereas over here, one dining table they were looking at was about $15K.

I got my entire formal dining room (table and 8 chairs) for under $3000 from West Elm....my bedroom (king size bed and headboard and dresser) was $1500.
Prices in Pakistan are not what they used to be. The type of furniture you like, by the time you factor in your freight/duties/customs charges I'm fairly certain it will equal if not more in cost.
You're better off buying here. The shipping/freight aspect is quite daunting. I've also heard hororr stories of pieces arriving damaged and then not having any warranty or recourse.

Thanks! It helps hearing another persons point of view on this. Buying a house and then thinking about furniture is exhausting but I enjoy it!
We built a new house end of 2013 and I furnished from scratch (except for a few things from my old house)..between West Elm, HomeGoods (for accent pieces), some online retailers and Z Gallerie, I got my entire 3000 sqft home done and accessorized for around $8000. It's can be overwhelming, but if you take your time and get creative, it's amazing the deals you can find!
A friend of mine shipped some furniture from Pak to the UK. Not only did the process turn out to be excessively expensive, she also found some of stuff damaged.
I think its best to stick to the options you have at your location. Unless you are able to book an entire container, which can be costly but reduces chances of your stuff getting damaged.

Ooo! I love all those stores! Do you mind sharing the online retailers you used?
I’m looking at Modern furniture, not really interested in the traditional cultural touch.
Here’s a picture of furniture I saw in a Dawn article. It closely resembles what I am interested in. The only reason I thought of going to Pakistan for it is because I thought I could get it for a better price than I would here.
Oh I thought you are looking for traditional/cultural furniture. That is worth buying from Pakistan but the kind of furniture you are looking for, you will be better of buying from here. Hint Easter sale is not far
Hobby Lobby is another great place to buy accessories and home decor. They sell some limited furniture too. Its my wife's favorite store. She is working very hard to send the owner's kids through college.
