Re: fungus:
Hi
We also had this problem with our bathroom.
Recently our bathroom was damaged and we had the insurance people repair the damage.
They said that they would get this new paint for us...
It's great!
Buy paint with Microban in it. Microban is the stuff that they put in fridges these days............
We didn't buy the paint so don't know where they got it from, but they told us that it contains Microban
Re: fungus:
We ban him.
Re: fungus:
it depends on what is the cause of the fungus/mold, if you can note were you live and the type of construction is it, I may be able to give you a better idea. we have dealt wit similar issues in our Uk home as well as Pak house, and the reasons were different. Plus we know peopel who have had issues in US and their reasons were also different
you have to fix the cause of it before you can fix the look itself.
do you have pipes leaking in the walls and ceilings?
do you have a leak in the roof so rain water is getting in the walls.
is there not enough ventilation in the bathroom?
do you have moisture problems somewhee else e.g.
Please do not just, clean it and cover it up with new paint or something, have someone come in and do an assessment.
for immediate short term fix and to avoid it from getting worse. clean the moldy areas with special cleaners you can find in home stores
make sure you ventilate the place thorougly, and I would suggest getting a dehumidifier for the bathroom for now.
but this is just a bandage, you need to figure out what is causing it in order to be able to stop it

i think first two probs are with our bathroom
pipes leaking.....
rain water

Re: fungus:
you need to stop those first, otherwie any cosmetic cover up you do will not do anything except for a very short term, not to forget that the mold can cause health probs.
Re: fungus:
Sorry I should have said that the Microban paint is for use after eliminating the root cause first - sorry if it caused any confusion!
Our problem was poor ventilation so that got sorted as part of the insurance repairs
Re: fungus:
poor ventilation indeed causes fungus and mildew cos it doesn;t help in getting rid of moisture. We had the same problem in our bathroom in our previous house. I used a mildew remover to get rid of the marks on the ceiling and walls and then tried my best to keep the bathroom dry at all times, like after taking a shower leave the door open to let the steam out etc.
Fazeelat all that moisture in the bathroom is bound to cause fungus. Get the pipes and roof fixed!
