Fungus problem in my studio flat

Any solution? This on the walls which are exposed outside (not the ones with the other flat or the kitchen side). This appeared last winter as well and during summer it went off. But this year is too much.

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

Mostar, I think there isnt any thing really that you can do with the wall … Coz if I am thinking correctly, there is something wrong in the construction of the wall .. and knowing UK’s weather, it keeps raining all the time… so you cant really stop the water or moisture from getting absorbed in the wall…

for reducing sake, try using a de-humidifier.. that helped me tonns at one of my rented homes :hmmm:

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

its not a good thing to have in the house...move out ASAP...i've heard the mould can cause serious problems in humans especially kids. i think you should move out or have all the affected area removed and its a big job...its expensice

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

yeah I agree with Khalil too ...

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

Mould was one of the biggest problems for me when I was living in the UK. Happened in nearly every house I lived and caused me tons of allergies. I agree with CB, a dehumidifier helps a lot.

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

if you are renting an apt. notify the land lord.. mold remedification is usually their responsibility (at least in the US)

To get rid of mold, first of all you have to find a source (which looks like you do know about) and then eliminate that... in the meantime, you can use bleach n water to clean but it will come back over and over again.. also, you can use molidicide paints to paint the wall after removing which may help a lil but not for long term purposes.

de humidifer is a good idea too!

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

and try airing out your apt whenever you can, lots of natural light should help too. Try not to keep your curtains/blinds close all the time. If yuou have carpet I would check under that too. Big yes to de-humidifiers, bit run it with close doors windows, otherwise it will not be as effective. Good luck, if things don't change for few months, and it is a rented place ask your land lord to look into it, if he/she doesn't run...move out fungus is bad for health.

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

This thing have alot of health hazards, first option move out - second .. try to fix it.

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

o my God i have a swear fungus problem in my bedroom and we sleep there along with my lill one
:(

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

Thank you all for your advice.

My landlord blamed me for it as we kept no ventilation during December and that we do a lot of cooking which causes vaporisation. Now he has given a machine to suck the vapours from the room.

This was in January last year as well with the arrival of Summer it disappeared but again during last freezing December.

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

My landlord was also an asshole about it, it was my first rented property and due to the cold I never opened the windows. I didn't know lack of ventilation could cause mould, it was never a problem while I was in student accomodation.

Re: Fungus problem in my studio flat

I really don;t know how things work in UK but here in teh US you can contact Health dept, file a complain, and then the health inspector follows up on that.. and all housing codes state that any multi unit property, owner is responsible for the remediation of mold.. doesnt matter who caused it!!! so see if you can find the health/housing/code enforcement dept and seek help!
