Fun-da-Mental (Mera Mazab)

Looking at whats going on these days..i remembered a song by Aki and the lads.

The band is called fun-da-mental and the band and their sound and their political stance has to be seen, heard and experienced first hand.

So to introduce you to the band. Here are lyrics from a song titled “Mera mazab”

MERA MAZAB

I call you, I call you to come and hear me
You think I’m insane but check the story
Close your eyes and try to picture the reality
And then tell me what you see
Media brainwash of the tender ones
You teach us to kill one another and watch the fun
Society killing the essence of purity
The sun is gone, only clouds around the city

I was born a Muslim, and I’m still livin’ as a Muslim
My spirituality determines reality
You’re running after false gods forgettin’the true one
Great teachers were sent to warn us
But you reject and claim intellect
Yet our children are killed, lotta blood being spilled
Massacre in the Mosque, suicidal frame of mind
Take a look, can’t you see, look at Palestine

The devil operating through the media
Morality replaced with hysteria
You say money is everything and money makes the world go
Down, down, down
Qullh uallahu ahadh
You go for yours cos I’m in Jihad
Allahusamad
There is no other way for me but Islam
Lamiah allidh, wu lamiah ullahd
Fool don’t bother me wid no immorality
Walamiah qullahu kufhuan ahad
There is no other way brother, Allah uh akbar

To non believers, what the heck, we’re on a check
The plots of the wicked end in shame
Soon I’ll be comin’ around the mountain
with my Islamic warriors
Nubians wid Jihad in my mind
So seek and you shall find the time
Subhanallah, al hamdhu lilah to my leader

Abuse, refuse to acknowledge the truth
You say Islam, and it’s sexism
But you’re blind, when it comes to global masochism
There’s hesitance when you gotta see the essence
Of where I’m coming from, I know, I see
I learn and tried to learn from you
But my spirituality determines reality
Determines reality

Allah uh akbar
Allah uh akbar
Allah uh akbar

My spirituality determines reality

I heard of them a while back, very vague, cant really remember them much.

Great lyrics though.

wow...where do I find out more about these ppl? where r they based?

Fun-da-mental is based out of UK. They write songs about opression in general and travel all over. If I am not mistaken they were in South Africa in not so distant past.

The band has a interesting history, the founder Aki Nawaz was a founder of the famous band The Cult, but left to pursue his own sound.

You can check them out at their website www.fun-da-mental.com. There was discussion about fun-da-mental in pak.org previously.

Also look for my interview with Aki Nawaz, yash, Mush and D coming out soon.

You can buy Fun-Da-Mental at amazon.com and Cd-now.com .. CD now have samples of their work .. if you are not familiar with them .. they sound like Rage Against the Machine .. with same kind of message/lyrics but more gangster rap kind of heavy oriented but unlike Rage they don’t have that much guitar work .. a lot of sampling and synthesized sound work ….but they sound good .. highly recomended

Hey one more thing
These things are hard to explain
For some it seems strange... to swallow
The frontier of our minds
Is the last place we find
But maybe the first place we should go

Wow…I call you, I call you to come and hear me/you think I’m insane but check the story/close your eyes and try to picture the reality… i’m already singing the song

Here is another one

Sin will merge with your reality
god gave the world to his own people
Is the place you live always fighting evil
What happened to the land where men are created equal
wrongs cause a friction fire
Upside my temple
Fat and duplicity while drinking mediocrity
Crying in anxiety desire is the means to be
growing is the madess
sin! sin! Sin! SIn! SIN!
Growing is the madness
of the prro mans humbel head
Living in faithlessness while the sky revolving overhead
Evil on the airways
Thru the cathode ray totem
Plague in your food chain
Resilience will be broken
All are tainted by wickedness
No one is truly good
So will survive when God decides to uproot
sin! sin! Sin! SIn! SIN

Awesome

Fraudia, I've said this before and I'll say it again, these guys are poised for great things.

Some of their stuff screams brilliance, tell them to try and hook up with people like Peter Gabriel or something. Seriously.

What label are they with? If they haven't approached them already, I'm sure Polygram should be interested in their stuff.

There's a lot of talent hiding out there, so let's gather around, have some choco oreos and sing kumbaya appreciating the fact we've got the net and druids like Fraud to unleash it to the masses.

Keep the good work up, the toilet seat down and the tunes flowing.

They were in Chicago last year?… duh I missed it … how did they do? .. they definitely are talented and very innovative .. there cover of Erotic terrorism was very cool (Sultan Rahi with Anjuman on his side) not the usual desi album music cover with huge self promoting pretty portraits of self … I like hardrock/blues and guitar driven music but I think Fun-da-Mental guys are real good they sure are heavy ( not as much guitar driven as would I like to see) and most of all they know what they are doing .. their music is not cheezy or out of sync or ‘blend of east and west’ … its more of a socio-politik band like Rage against the machine, Mid night oil , early U2 .. Junoon started out like that but they sure took the U2 way ‘sell em’ …there is a lot of desi music around 99% crap mostly in ranks of Brittany spears and boy bands … I do consider Junoon’s music serious but they are not very original .. their lyrics are always borrowed … and lately they have toned downed to sound more like pop…

Fun-Da-Mental is with Nation records. Why have they not hit is as big as they could have? well the powers that be in music will always keep such bands down, but the underground support for this band is awesome. The play all over the world which is kinda hard to imagine since Yash is in college..dunno how many classes he has to miss

Fun-Da-Mental were here as well as Asian Dub Foundation as part of the International music festival, they also had rizwan Muazaam qawali group, which did a separate show and later a joint performance with Fun-Da-mental. Cheb i sabah was there too and it was a blast.

I sweriously want to bring the guys back for a concert or two, I have communicated that to Mush and Aki, but hafta wait and see what their schedule is like and how it can be arranged.

They had expressed an interest in my idea of them an junoon appearing on the same ticket because they can introduce themselves to the audience of the other group. Junoon is the only Pak based band that can work with them..

Imagine Junaid singing “na tu aaye gi” followed by the immense stage presence of Aki.

If you guys have not seen it..this is how the performance goes.

Aki Nawaz on the synthesizer/keyboards headbanging like crazy long hair all over the face. Yash on the punjabi dhol with the sticks..long hair flying as he prances from one side to another… david (“D”) on the turntables mixing up a storm jumping all around with his genie like pony tail on the top of his otherwise shaven head. and then people like Mush the MC jump on the stage jumping all over, leaping over other people. It is intense energy, just amazing.

These guys simply…rock the house.

I really like the band..
Got all three CD’s of them, donno if they released more.. or any CD recently..??
