fulbright/USAID masters scholarship

Salam to all,

Are there any fulbright/USAID masters scholarship recipients here??? I just wanted to know what are the chances of a management graduate with a BS degree in business administration for obtaining a scholarship??? esp if he wants to pursue a degree in finance or management.

I am giving a quote from the USEFP website mentioning the priority fields:

Priority will be given to the pure and applied sciences, agriculture, health, economics, teaching of English, education and fields related to economic development

what are the fields related to economic development in their point of view???

Can anyone tell me please???

Re: fulbright/USAID masters scholarship

A professor I know was a Fulbright scholar though his field was completely unrelated to economic development; he was from Japan and was elected to study psychology.

When are you applying? I am also going to be applying for the Fulbright scholarship, though in 2009 or 2010 when I graduate. I have started to look at profiles of Fulbright scholars to get an idea of the program's requirements and who is most likely to be elected - that would be a good starting point for any one interested in applying. I suppose you could find contact information for the winners and approach them as well for advice?

Good luck to both of us!

Re: fulbright/USAID masters scholarship

based on what I know... the foundation has different mandates for different countries. For Pakistan, this may very well be linked to economic development and it actually makes sense. I know somebody in Pakistan who just got news about her selection this year... she graduated from LUMS with a degree in Economics and is planning to continue at the graduate level in the States.

I'm in Canada, and here, the main emphasis of the Fulbright program here is on intergovernmental policy, trade relations, public relations, collaboration on foreign policy etc.

Umar Talib, if it wouldn't be a violation of privacy, would you mind sharing what her GPA and her extracurricular and work activities were?

Re: fulbright/USAID masters scholarship

I also know someone from Lahore, he is in second year of Masters in US. He is old Ravian and did MSc Statistics. Passed CSS exam and was serving before getting Fulbright Scholarship.
I have not asked him any further about this as know he is very outstanding student. If I got more info would post here.

Re: fulbright/USAID masters scholarship

Is anyone here applying for other scholarships, such as the Rhodes or Chevening etc? Those who have applied, what did you write in your personal letters? I am wondering how personal we ought to get in them, how transparent when talking about our hardships. I am also very concerned with talking about political views, which can obviously be relevant. Are Fulbright and Rhodes scholarships politically conservative? Do they look down at Marxist and other radical leanings?

Re: fulbright/USAID masters scholarship

I'll try to get some information but I can't really promise... I know her as an acquaintance but not too well. I just know she's a brilliant student.

Also I think this was a record year for Fulbright scholarships in Pakistan... I read somewhere that they had planned 160 scholarships for Pakistan. Dunno if they were all eventually awarded.
