Fruit & Veg

Recommended Amount

There you go Gupsters, here’s what you should be aiming for if you want to live long and prosper. Does anybody aim to actually meet these targets already? Or is junk food just too good to miss out on?

Strange, but I always thought pizzas tasted very healthy but apparently that’s not the case.

Pizza can be very healthy.. use a wholegrain crust, cut down on cheese drastically, load up on the sauce ..look for one with very little sugar, or better yet make the sauce yourself, load up with veggie toppings and/or lean meats and you have a pretty healthy thing there :)

Maybe so, but it won't taste like pizza any more...

well it depends on what your defintion of pizza is. Since you are a geordie maybe u have not been exposed to some real italian stuff :)

Right now I can go to a few diff pizza joints in Chitown and get something completely diff, deep (and I mean deep dish chicago style) to thin crust tuscan style to the chunky sicilian.

having a whole grain crust does not really impact the flavour. going easy on the cheese may impact the flavour, but u can easily decrease it by half on pizzas from pizza hut and pizza pan etc without noticing a taste diff..texture a little but not to taste.

abay try it bhai, and then lemme know

Well maybe. Pizza Hut pizzas are just too good to tamper with. Even so, I think I'm going to start looking to at least TRY and meet the fruit & veg quotas in future. A lifetime of eating junk has to have an impact sooner or later...

Apples, oranges - we meet again. After years of ignoring each other can we ever be friends again?

dunn forget grapefruit, bananas, mango and grape etc.

and you are still ignoring veggies..now get some brussels sprouts, some cabbage, broccolli, turnips, spinach, okra (lady finger), green beans and carrots.

shabaash

i usually have some fruit right after dinner.

that's enough i think for a whole day

:nono: you as future doc should know that having fruits after dinner isn’t very healthy either. daytime is the best time for eating fruits!

Tsk. Doc's just aren't up to much these days.

Anyway, for those too lazy to click on the link here's the important info:

*What constitutes a portion? *

  • A medium apple or banana (80g)

  • A bowl of mixed salad (80g)

  • 3 tablespoons of peas or carrots (80g)

  • Any amount of 100% fruit or vegetable juice (only once a day)

  • Any amount of beans or pulses (only once a day)

  • Any amount of green beans

  • Any amount of 100% concentrated puree

Eating healthy foods is such a hard task. :-\

Well bears eat raw food so at least the nutrients don't get blasted by over-cooking.

Fancy any of that lot on Fraudia's list then? Broccoli? Turnip? After you dear...

having fruits after dinner isn't very healthy either.

Saadia, how about bedtime? Although fruits are the last thing on my mind around that time. But sometimes they can be first. For a change.

:konfused: never heard anything like this…do tell me the reason behind this :~)

i should think it is an excellent moment to have some fruit…ur body is in the digestive mode, so anything eaten will be used to the maximum

how often u don’t see ppl having a banana after lunch or so…so y not after dinner have an orange?

i think mujeh aadut daalni pure gi.......

This has the same effect that alcohol causes to your liver. Fruits, especially apples, peaches, pears ferment in your tummy, as they don’t really digest during night time, making the mixture into alcoholic gases and liquid. Don’t you feel uncomfortable after having an apple so close to bedtime, well I allways do.

after dinner doesn’t mean for me just before bedtime…usually i have dinner 5/6 hours before sleeping…just when i get home from uni

ps: is it haraam when fruit juices ferment into alcohol IN your stomach? :hehe:

Stick with McDonalds burgers for lunch and dinner.

well if 5/6 hours before bedtime then its ok, i know that 3 hours before bedtime it is not recommended to have a big meal, something light is alright. Well each to their own, some people even get up during night time and eat, a big no no for me.

No, its NOT haraam of course not, but if you do this regulary, eat an apple right before going to bed and not having time to digest it properly, then you can just take a glass of red or while wine, it has the same kind of reaction in your body.

speaking of fruits and pizza, did anyone ever try pineapple pizza? it’s simply delicious!

:yummy:
