Re: Fruit chaat ingredients

Re: Fruit chaat ingerdients
We rarely if ever put amrood in the chaat. Although my mom will sometimes add a little bit of guava juice to the chaat sometimes.
Here is what we add:
apple peach orange kiwi grapes banana
*dates: We take pitted dates and cut them into slices and add them to the chaat. I've always loved this tradition in my family. And I haven't seen anyone else do this......but the soft/candied-like texture of the khajoors mixed in with the fruit is pleasant. We don't add the chanay to the chaat. And I like it this way, cuz it's lighter.
lemon juice....squeeze some in...and sprinkle chaat masala. Instead of lemon juice, guava juice can be used as well.
Oh i love adding dates to the fruit chaat
Anyways we make more of a fruit salad i guess..its just fruits cut up
Apple
Pear
Peach
Strawberries
Dates
Grapes
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients

For me,chaat is with lotsa chaat masala and chick peas and some imli chutney....
Salad is just different fruits tossed up...
..
For your second question...because they taste oh so good...:D
haven't you ever tried it...??
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
try adding some desi type ice cream into fruit chaat its soooo yummy but add ice cream only lil before serving...
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
eeeeeee
I love chick peas in the chaat
… I learnt about em when i went pakistan a year ago , saw my mamoo putting chana’s in the fruit chat ! initially i thought , how wierd .. but once you have em , you just stick to em for life ! They are that good !
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
Fruit chat is amongst the very few things I can make and here’s my recipe:
Apples
Bananas
Strawberries
Peaches
Nectarines
Melon
You chop the fruit into small pieces and add some orange juice to it. I also throw in some almonds and walnuts ( cut them up into smaller pieces) along with 3-4 dates ( cut each into 4 pieces). Mix the chaat well and VOILA!
P.S. I forgot to mention sugar ![]()
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
My mom makes THE most awesome chaat with fruits and chanas...
1 banana
1 apple
1 small onion
1 tomato
1 boiled potato
1 can chick peas
Take 1/2 a cup of yogurt,medum-thin consistency and add chaat masala to it...
Make imli chutney ,add 1 tbsp bhunna zeera/dhania(powdered), 1 tsp salt, red chilli...sugar 1.5 cups to 250 gms of imli pulp...it should be more sweet than sour...
Mix enough to the yogurt mixture and taste it...
add it to the fruits and chickpeas...and its ready...you can add papdi on top... it tastes just like thelay wali chaat!
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
I'm not Pakistani but there are a few elements of fruit chaat that I really love.
One is the addition of mango!!!!! Amazing.
Second is pouring/sprinkling OJ all over it.
Third is pouring a little cream over it (whipped or even not). It is amazing... but should be kept away most of the time and considered a treat, like a dessert :)
Lastly, my fiance made us some for Iftar last week. He added dates, as someone else mentioned (just little slivers) and wow- also really great!

we do the dates thing too : P
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
Thoroughly grateful to the ladies in this thread. On the few attempts of making fruit chaat, it didnt have a wow factor. However, I sifted through these suggestions, and now can't get enough of the stuff. My family loved it to. I never knew you could use amrood in the chaat, its fantastic!
The one I made yesterday was made with a concoction of fruit I had available :
grapes
papaya
banana
amrood
apple
pear
pomegranate
mango
lychees
I had kiwi too, but it was too sour... plus, the pomegranate gave it the sour edge. Im not too keen on using oranges so left them out :/
whilst i was chopping the fruit, i kept adding lemon juice and mixing the fruit in the bowl so it didnt go brown (as apples and bananas do)
I sprinkled pepper, tsp sugar and salt too
It was delicious!!!!
As for not using guava, I think thats totally fine to the thread starter. My SIL makes it without guava and its still really tasty...but I think she uses orange juice instead of the lemon juice.
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
And I think when I'm brave enough I'll try adding chana D:
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
Sahds:lifey: well done …
What makes chaat really tasty is your ability to balance between sweet and sour fruits .. So for example, when i make chat, plum and kiwi are always an addition , they are sour fruits … to balance them out I use one sweet pear. When I add orange as well , I try to balance by putting a sweet apple .. if the apple is not very sweet , I try to add melon … the chana , basically balances out the taste somewhere in the middle of sweetness and sourness…
My friend makes chat and i have never liked it , coz i find it too sweet  similarly when i dont intentionally balance out fruit , the chat isnt the most fantastic .. so yeah this balancing act really helps ![]()
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
I chop up the desired fruit, add some flaked almonds and some chopped dates… then pour over [star anise flavoured] sugar syrup.
Ok, maybe that’s just a simple fruit salad…![]()
Same here
I hate the fruit chaat with onions, tomatoes and potatoes etc…i mean come on, decided what you are, sweet or savoury!!
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
Totally agree with CB.. and to add, its about balancing the textures too. Use the right amount of the mushy, soft fruit like banana, pear, mango, guava, and the crispy fruit like apples, pomegranate, grapes.
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
Sahds , thats a valuable point you made ![]()
Maroushie:emmy: spicy is fun ![]()
Re: Fruit chaat ingredients
I remember my khala once put chanay and the meethi chutney (the red one, that street vendors pour on gol guppay) in her fruit chaat. It was rich...but delicious.
I wonder what other ingredients one can experiment with. Hmm....maybe a sort of caramel sauce.....or a juice reduction with cinnamon in it.
