From which religion?

Have people converted to Islam the most?

Re: From which religion?

Hmmm good question....

I would say majority of Muslims throughout history have converted to Islam after giving up pagan beliefs.

But I'm guessing most converts in recent times are Jewish or Christian...

Re: From which religion?

Probably Christianity.

Or Pastafarianism..

Re: From which religion?

I think it's mostly Catholics.

Re: From which religion?

You mean Rastafarianism… :cb:

Re: From which religion?

Please if you can, cite your reason for the answer. Thanks. :)

Re: From which religion?

No bro, Pastafarianism. Search it up.

Re: From which religion?

i've heard this from so many people...i see if i can find a proper reference.

Re: From which religion?

Okay very well... Historically I think the majority of converts came from Pagan beliefs in either multiple Gods and then converted to Islam or people who had belief in a great spirit or Sky father or one God but not a serious dogma behind it....

However in recent times I am guessing that it's easier for many Christians and Jews to look into Islam and perhaps due to that exposure there has been both negative and positive reaction and mass converts from Christianity and Judaism does not seem to unlikely in the 21st Century....

Re: From which religion?

Agreed with Faris Udeen. Historically, I'd say the majority of reverts belonged to pagan beliefs.

Re: From which religion?

Oh my I really have lived too long :hayaa:

I cant believe theres people who hold that faith… but oh well they are entitled to thier belief no matter how silly so long as it does not interfere with mine…

Re: From which religion?

Okay so what is the answer i’m genuinley very curious… :hmmm:

Re: From which religion?

While I may have some answer but not sure myself. So I asked the question for those who may know.

The answer can be given based on timeline.. .You love history I think..yes?

Re: From which religion?

Yes thats right so based on history i will stick with the answer I gave you...

I'm sure through the centuries more pagans joined our ranks than other faiths... technically Hindus are a grey area becuase they fall into Pagan category but they do have a recognised faith unlike many other faiths that were made practically extinct thanks to the spread of Islam.

Also I remember an old legend about how more people converted to Islam in India at the hands of Qwaja Ajmeri sarkaar than many prhophets had converted.

Judging by my ancestors who were Pagans naturally i would tend to lean to the view but offcourse i might be just being biased...

It's going to be one of those things that are strongly debatable and evidence might be used to support or rebuke this view but like all scientific studies this is very interesting.

But i'm only making a guess based partly on gut instinct and partly on record.... as an educated guess you can see where i'm comming from though and I guess it's a valid argument.

Re: From which religion?

I have done lot of research on this topic most are from chiristianty because they most of them are cofused about the basics of their religion I mean the concept of trinity even some of the priests and ministers are confused about it they are just teaching to keep their job

Re: From which religion?

Care to share your research Zarvan?

Re: From which religion?

Doesn't sound like a very well researched fella.

Re: From which religion?

Your Hypothesis might not be too far from the truth, I can agree that in recent times with the advent of better communications and global distances reduced to mere seconds that ideas can flourish and it makes it easier for Ahle Kitaab faiths and faiths who believe in the same divine power of God to be drawn closer together....

But my theory is based on historical information and I think is more likely is that since Islam started by originally drawing on the followers of Paganist beliefs that were quickly converted and since majority of Muslim expansion was most succesfull in Africa and Asia at least during the heydays it's following would obviously be of ex-pagans.

I mean the North African tribes were pagans as were the Central Asians and Indians who all succumbed to the first waves of expanding Islam, and not all the expansion was due to Millitary conquest but also becuase of Tableeg by pious people who spread the faith through teaching and example.

Some might scoff at that and blame the success of Muslim expansion solely on force of arms and millitary power, howver Spain was conquered by the sword and look how within a short space of time a largely Spanish reconquesta took it all back.... the lack of many shrines in Spain is also a fact hard to ignore...

Whereas in India even the Ghaznavid empires 17 raids did little to attract as many converts, largely being glorified raids and retaliatory attacks. It was only after the Sufi Saints established themselves at places like Ajmer and Kalinyar that we see Islam was adopted by the mass of natives.

This is a mere summary of my view and while I'm not saying this is the definitive view I am making a well based academic and educated guess.
