From the point of view of employers, employment must be easy in Pakistan.

  • They get their pick of candidates.
  • No need to worry about things like sensitivity training or “Verbal Judo” seminars.
  • They can easily have the attitude of “Don’t like it? LEAVE!”.
  • Upper hand in the salary negotiation process (there are exceptions at higher levels).
  • Relaxed rules about hiring, firing, laying off, etc. No need for things like severance, continuing health insurance, work related injury insurance, and unemployment benefit taxes.
  • Don’t need to worry about being taken to court for every little hiring mistake.
  • Affirmative Action and Equality? What is that? I am aware that there is something like this at the government level for minorities and disabled.
  • Relaxed record keeping rules.

But then again, a lot of quality employees are always looking to move out to Mid East or US/Europe, so they probably lose good employees a lot. Also, a lot of candidates just leave for other countries after getting an education, and that reduces the pool of qualified people.

And just for this topic, I am talking about professional working environments, not Azghar Nehari and Paaye or Ajmal Caantraactur and Brickwork.

the day we have independent judiciary which can facilitate the common person it will all end and we will join the developed countries as far as working environment of these mnc's and local firms is concerned. Because judiciary protects the week, other than that the protection of intellectual rights is the second most important step towards a forward looking developing society.

unfortunately we haven't caste both these rules underlying all theories of development economics in our own life or in our societies anthropological background.
