I never wanted to compare my favorite poet with likes of Veena Malik… but just was thinking: has our society benefited / deteriorated due to freedom of woman.
Parveen Shakir’s poetry was published during Zia regime and the lady truly represented the feelings of ladies (of her times and I think her poetry still loved by Pakistani society). With all the freedom of expression, what our society is producing now are likes of Veena Malik.
Why our society has become barren to produce gems like Parveen Shakir anymore?
I understand what you want to say but there's no comparison between the two. Even during that time there was one actress I have forgotten her name who did some movies in India and wanted to participate in miss universe or something.

You are talking of infamous Aneeta Ayub, but there was no social acceptance of such people then (besides the government bans). The situation is quite different and there are people in our society who support such people on the name of so called freedom of expression.
^ lol yes her… There’s was a lot of uproar when she wanted to participate in some pagent, otherwise she did wear a swim suit in some Indian movie. I watched that movie.
she was looking too fat in the song, anyways the whole situation has changed. I have seen some very good family stage dramas, a few years back I saw one in which the audience was all rickshaw drivers and bus drivers. Nothing against them but the deterioration in the overall arts scene including stage, movie and drama. All this we can see with the kind of actresses coming out of it.
Yes there are good and bad people in all fields. The problem is people acting again the cultural roots are supported openly now. Our poetry in past (including filmi poetry) was classic, but now we don’t have people like Qateel Shifai, Ahmed Faraz to pen such classics. All we have lyricists of Naseeb Laal’s ’ pyar di ganderi’ and ‘saawan de haneri’ These poets claim that its a public demand that make them write such stuff. koi pooche, how the society which was comfortable with modest lyrics start loving such garbage?
Agreed, when I went to watch the stage drama I was with a friend and was thinking to myself that no way one can bring his family to watch them. Now all this stuff is reaching the houses of people through cable tv. Even the tv dramas are becoming more and more westernised/vulgar it like kawa challa hans ki chaal aur apni bhi bhool Gaya. Back in the day if an actress used to be without a do patta used to be the thing, and now
I think society lost grip on content over the period and now people want to cater fast attention by cheap moves
I think the time will come, when people will long for quality again. Like even the vulgarity has not been able to save our film industry. There's a limit to everything.
I doubt this. People still long for 'Munni badnaam' and 'Sheela ki Jawani'. Its all about glamour. People want to watch foreign content shoeing extra marital affairs in their homes. Latka Jhatka na ho to log koi song bhi nahin dekhen :@:
