The British has already done the redrawing, so the US would not have to bother with that. This time its just a new flag for Iraq.

The US occupying forces are working hard to realign the arab world on democratic bases. Iraq as a first experiment is getting a new image, a more democratic image I would say. The new flag speaks volume, if there was no Jordan.
Just for comparison these are some flags from the region, most of these are leftovers from the British Raj.

The two blue stripes symbolizes the tigris and euprates, while the yellow stripe represents the kurds. As far as likeness with the israeli flag goes, its funny that the latter also has blue stripes representing rivers.
With loads of times on my hand :) , i came up with my own version:
:k: Good :k: Get rid of the previous one. Who wanted the “Allahu Akbar” on it anyways. And all that green representing Islam ? :nook: :nook:
In the midst of the civil war raging in Iraq, Iraqi soldiers dying left right and center dropping like exhausted flies; dilapidated schoosl/hospitals/sewage infrastructures; 40 attacks against US/UK per day (according to BBC), it’s nice to see a bunch of unelected dictators at the Governing Council can devote their energy towards something so important.
Subsequent to receiving massive criticisms, the non-elected Council members changed it to this one - one of the main criticisms was that the above flag resembled - surprise surprise! - Israel’s flag too much.
Interesting how there’s no Shahada or Allahu Akbar, or even green, on the new flag. All in keeping with the “new” Iraq - hopefully the more secular one, i suppose.
