From India to Pakistan...to shop!!

**This a modified version of my post on one of the other sections of this forum…i thought i’d post here too since this seems like a more appropriate place for shopping related questions..

I’m an Indian living in India, with distant Pakistani roots. Although people often say that there isnt much difference between people from either side of the border, for some reason the idea of Pakistan has always fascinated me. A large part of it stems from my ridiculous interest in Pakistani food, literature and CLOTHES!!

In my head I’d imagined what all i would do if i ever get a chance to roam the by-lanes of Pindi or spend a leisurely evening on food street in Lahore. Well…I guess now is the time!!

If all goes as planned..I should be in Pakistan by the end of December for a little under a week. Mostly in Islamabad. And I want to experience the city!!

So you job here is to tell me everything!! In little under a week…what all can I do in Islamabad?

most importantly where all should i shop! I’m looking at picking up mostly some wedding-y stuff..a Gharara and some suits etc…but again..Good stuff but not expensive…(it would be nice if you could give the names and addresses of shops along with how much stuff costs on an average)

I am not getting married immediately…looking at a more 2012 date..but i wont get the chance to go to Pakistan again for a while..So I want to do a little bit of shopping! Please do tell me how much would a nice gharara and some nice traditional as well as trendy suits cost…Dont want designer stuff..coz i’m sure it would be expensive..just as in India..but u know..

which shops…which markets…can i bargain..how much can i bargain!?

Thanks and much love from the other side!

Re: From India to Pakistan…to shop!!

im back again :stuck_out_tongue:

check this out ;D

here is some info abt shopping area in islamabad (^^)

BLUE AREA:
Shopping in Islamabad can be a very different experience if you wander around the Blue Area, Kohsar Market (F-6), Super Market (F-6) and the Jinnah Super (F-7). Blue Area is the business hub of Islamabad interspersed with classy shops selling branded wear. HangTen, Textilion, United Colors of Benetton and Lawrencepur offer casual wear, footwear and accessories. Beautiful and expensive home furnishings and interior decorators also have a strong presence in Blue Area with latest fabrics and designs to transform your homes and offices. Most of these shops are very expensive and charge astronomical prices for their wares.
A wide array of popular bakeries and sweet shops like Rahat Bakery, Jamil Sweets, Nirala, Fresco and United Bakery are located here. Packed with mouth watering, eye popping, delectable goodies, these bakeries do a roaring business regardless of time and season. Shops selling top-of-the-notch fitness machines, electric goods and expensive crockery are also found in the Blue Area.

SUPER MARKET (F-6):
Super Market in F-6,
on the other hand, has a quiet and quaint feel to it. Maybe it is because of the abundance of handicrafts and souvenir items that are sold here. The shopkeepers here are very courteous and quite willing to display their colorful wares for your inspection. Lots of shops here sell cushions, bed covers, handbags, ladies kurtis, etc. adorned with Kashmiri and Swati embroidery. A fine collection of Pashmina shawls, rugs, carpets and wall hangings in intricate bead, thread and mirror work is also available.
Foreigners love to shop here and it is not uncommon for shopkeepers to add a shawl or a scarf “for the lady back home” as a gift to the final purchase. Durrani’s is the place to shop for art supplies, stationery and imported pens while Mr. Books and Mr. Books Too sell fiction, nonfiction and school books, magazines and stationery.

KOHSAR MARKET (F-6):
Kohsar market is one of Islamabad’s oldest and most cherished shopping areas. Called “a slice of Europe in Pakistan,” Kohsar market has the reputation for being extremely well stocked with fresh and exotic products. Everything needed to throw a five star banquet for local and foreign dignitaries is available here.

JINNAH SUPER (F-7):
When it comes to ultimate shopping experience, there’s no place like Jinnah Super in Islamabad. Whether you are looking for cutting edge fashion, used books, home décor or exquisitely crafted gold jewelery or you just want to while away the breezy evening hours window shopping, Jinnah Super is the place for you. It comprises several blocks of buildings housing the best that the city has to offer.
Opposite the main entrance to Jinnah market you will find a “Floral Village” that provides a variety of seasonal flowers in simple and elaborate bouquets, not unlike those found near Liberty Market in Lahore. Big names in home textile products, fashion wear and fabrics like Chen One, Bareeze, Mushrooms, Bed & Bath, Nishat Linen, Slazenger, Cross Roads, Cambridge, Bonanza etc. are all found within walking distance of each other.
Fashion stores like Amir Adnan,](http://www.amiradnan.com/) Junaid Jamshed, Maria B’s boutique and international labels like Levis and GQ are available here and so is every major name in footwear. Cheaper stuff and bargain shops exist side by side with fancy outlets with no dearth of customers for either class.

Re: From India to Pakistan...to shop!!

Rajasthan is amazing for clothes and jewelery !!!!!
where did u go shopping in Rajasthan , i mean wht all shops did u visit.....did u only purchase from there or other place as well

Re: From India to Pakistan...to shop!!

We bought different dresses from different places.

we went to a palce called Bharat Plaza which had some good designs and i think that was jodphur.

we stayed in jaipur and there was this one place called vasansi which did a sort of customised fusion dress, kind of a cross between traditional bridal lengha with a modern long trail dress.

there are too many places to list out but if your going there, you wont be dissapointed.
