When guys are younger they have other "interests" at hand that mellows or mutes their behaviour. And yes I have seen some of the older men in my own life are less tolerant and generally more set in their ways once they get to a certain age.

This explains my dad. Like all things though, there are exceptions; I have a 73 old professor who is the most vivacious person I have ever met.
