There only two best books on this parition subject among so many.Indian version & Pakistani version.Recently this Shauna Baldwin, some prize winner sikhni 2nd generation nri married to American has written 'What the body never forgets" its biased in favour of sikh ,im not too much into semi factual semi fictional story around historical evnts.Sort of pollutes the reality & is dishonest history.

"jo kHat main kahte they apni jaan mujhko
aaj kHat likhne main unki jaan jaati hai .....

well if you are interested in the above subject then i would advice you 2 books
freedom at midnight
The proudest moment
i guess both books are impartial

I have bot read Amritsar to Lahore yet but another book kind of travelogue by Anthony Weller "Days and Nights on the Grand trunk road" was a good one too.

Shauna Singh Baldwin's novel is a fiction and not a history book. It talks about the story of a Sikh family and could be true but can't be generalized to apply to everyone. It is a good read though.

Of coursae, Freedom at midnight is good one of all I have read so for.
