The thing that amuses me is the countries which have the most stigma against male-female relations are also the countries where it is most unsafe for women. We think having such strict standards will protect women, but as a woman, where do you feel safer-in Pakistan or US? Of course in the US--a place famous for its open society.
I went to Pakistan recentlyand I was absolutely shocked that every girl told me that it's common for guys to slap your butt in the market. And forget going to the bazaar alone like you do here, siwaal hi nahi paida hota. Someone can say that "oh Pakistan is not following true Islam, we should be even more strict" but obviously many of the rules in that society ARE based on Islam...and when these rules seem to cause the opposite of their objective, it makes one wonder..
