Surprising movie about a Jewish boy who becomes friends with a Muslim Sufi who has a grocery shop in the neighbourhood. The movie was completely different from what I expected, yet it wasn’t disappointing, but an amazing movie making one laugh and sad and think about life.
There are a few scenes in the beginning which aren’t suited for children when the boy goes to prostitutes, but other than that it’s a great watch for the entire family. The Sufi is mysterious, but in the end you know more about him and understand the title of the movie better. Views of life and religion are explained, but never too ‘preachy’ (I don’t mind preaching, I regularly enjoy listening when they are well delivered by any sheikh, but there is a time and place for everything).
What more can I say than that it’s just an amazing movie, great acting and script, a beautiful friendship between a child and an adult changing into a tender child and parent relationship.
The movie is on YouTube, someone provided the title in the comments section of ‘Le Grand Voyage’, every now and then it’s worth reading the comments.
It’s a lesser known movie, but worth watching. Here is a link:
