You thought they were gone. After Date Movie](Date Movie (2006) - Movie | Moviefone), Epic Movie](Epic Movie (2007) - Movie | Moviefone), Meet the Spartans](Meet the Spartans (2008) - Movie | Moviefone), and Disaster Movie](Disaster Movie (2008) - Movie | Moviefone), you almost certainly hoped they were gone – but The Arrow brings us some news that will set your fangs on edge: looks the Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, the “filmmakers” responsible for the four semi-movies mentioned above, will be offering up a *Twilight *spoof on August 18 … just a few weeks after Twilight 3: Eclipse](The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) - Movie | Moviefone) turns the multiplexes into teenage squeal factories.
Don’t get me wrong here. I think the *Twilight *series is ripe for a clever skewering – but lord knows the creators of cinematic detritus like Epic Movie wouldn’t know a clever skewering if it nailed them square in the cheeks. And for all the snark I fling at the *Twilight movies, at least those flicks are made with a dash of sincerity. The Freidberg / Seltzer comedies are pretty much the lowest of the low, movie-wise. Troma, Uwe Boll, and The Asylum make better films than these guys do. National Lampoon makes better movies than these two. Yeah, I said it.
But yeah, the as-yet-untitled “Twilight Spoof” will be sure to hit theaters with a big, hollow thud. I bet the trailer has a Britney Spears reference, a glitter joke, a parody of a Fox reality series, and a woman dressed like Sarah Palin. Hilarious. This time around it’s Fox who’s responsible.
** I know they’re not really comedies, but I don’t know what else to call them. “Witless pop culture amalgams” is too wordy.*
