fried ice cream???

Can someone please tell me what is fried ice cream…???

Re: fried ice cream???

Its scoops of icecream frozen untill its very solid, dipped in batter and quickly fried. Very common up in Scotland.

Re: fried ice cream???

I thought they fried mars bar .. or is it common in Ireland?

And how is this fried ice cream served? Hot or cold?

Re: fried ice cream???

Yeah they deep fry mars bars too in batter. Weird folk.

The fried ice cream is served hot, but cold....if that makes any sense. You'd eat it as soon as it comes out of the oil basically, before the icecream inside the batter melts into a milky puddle.

Re: fried ice cream???

I guess a variation of cream puffs.

Re: fried ice cream???

Fried ice cream is claimed to be a Thai and Mexican dish too. But it originated somewhere near Bhatti Gate, Lahore. Here is how it looks like:

This is fried ice-cream. I have no idea how they did it, but they managed to deep fry a scoop of ice-cream without making it melt. The result is an ice-cream with a warm outer crust and an icy cold inside.

Holy crap, ice cream surrounded by bread and fried sounds like one of the most awful ideas in culinary history ever.

Re: fried ice cream???

hmmmm…interesting!!!
but do you know what batter is this…??? i mean the main ingredients of the batter…???

Re: fried ice cream???

The Mexican version the coating for the ice cream is made with toasted cornflakes, brown sugar and coconut.

Re: fried ice cream???

wow, and I thought nothing would ever surprise me anymore.

Re: fried ice cream???

I heard of something similiar called Baked Alaska. They actually coated the really frozen icecream in whipped eggwhites and some other things and then baked for a couple mins till the egg whites were kinda brownish and served quickly.

Also, I have seen fried icecream on menu for mexican resturants. Dont know wat it tastes like or looks like though. Will try to google and come back :)

I do those all the time. :yummy:

Re: fried ice cream???

I used to make baked alaska a lot but the only problem (if you can call it a problem) is that you need to finish it pretty much straight away as it doesn't keep very well.

Sometimes I would add a layer of fruit like fresh strawberrys spread over the flan case, or experiment with different flavour ice creams. You must make sure that the meringue covers all the icecream completely......even a tiny hole will make the icecream melt before the meringue is cooked.

Re: fried ice cream???

i have seen many recipes on the net..but they sound like a hasstle to me.
