Freshly squeezed orange juice?

So for the past couple of weeks I have been drinking home made freshly squeezed orange juice. Often, I will make a jug and put it in the refrigerator and it finishes in about 2 days. Until the other day when some Aunty told my mom that you shouldn’t refrigerate fresh juice…rather you should squeeze 1 glass at a time and basically make it as you go. This Aunty claims that refrigerating fresh juice means it goes off? Apparently she heard it on some Pakistani TV channel. I am not sure I believe this so thought I should clarify (hopefully someone has an answer) because I seriously don’t have time to squeeze juice everyday, 2 times a day. And I prefer the taste of fresh juice as compared to the supermarket stuff. Any thoughts?

Re: Freshly squeezed orange juice?

I used to make enough for 1 day only. (2 glasses). But I have have read somewhere, juices can lose their nutrients.

How often are you drinking it? Mornings? I would wake up a 15 mins earlier to make a glass.

How many oranges does it take to make a glass of OJ? Last time I tried I went through 10 oranges! Never tried again after.

Re: Freshly squeezed orange juice?

Lol that's about right.

Re: Freshly squeezed orange juice?

I find that it loses its taste after about half an hour so best to drink straightaway. It goes sour or as I say in punjabi Cora.

I know it's a hassle bit tastes best freshly squeezed. Do u not taste the difference after its left for a day?

Re: Freshly squeezed orange juice?

For me, one (fairly tall) glass is made up of about 3 oranges. I drink about 4 glasses a day. There is a slight taste difference when left in the fridge but I wouldn't say it's bad. Guess I will limit to making only enough for a day and that's it.

Still better than the ones you buy from the store with preservatives added to it. So if making it fresh is a hassle, continue doing what you're doing. :D

Re: Freshly squeezed orange juice?

After drinking fresh juice, the store bought bottles/cartons don't taste good :(

Re: Freshly squeezed orange juice?

Fresh is always better. The most potent would be drinking within an hr of making it (Which I do). If you can't make it everyday, storing it for max 48 hours is ok if you made it manually or used a masticating juicer. Citrus juices also tend to stay longer. If you used a normal blade juicer, i'd store it for max 24 hours but I wouldn't stretch it longer than that.

If you can't be bothered to juice regularly then just store it in an air tight glass or steel bottle in the fridge. It will keep the original taste/freshness as much as it can.

I LOVE fresh, frothy orange juice!!! So much better than the commercial stuff although I drink that more often. Try juicing carrots along with the oranges. Orange-carrot juice is delicious and you get your vitamin A along with C.
