Fresh new ideas for today's weddings

Hi ladies

What are some different ideas for a wedding mehendi or a valima? Something fun and interesting that’s not the same old traditional routine I see in every wedding. Any ideas would be appreciated thanks!

Re: Fresh new ideas for today's weddings

very open ended Q ... what kind of ideas? decors ? rasms ? dresses?

Re: Fresh new ideas for today's weddings

I mean I feel as if their all the same...groom enters bride enters food dancing cut the cake the end. If you guys have any ideas to spice it u and make it more entertaining that would be great! Like perhaps some games or skits or something along those lines?

Re: Fresh new ideas for today’s weddings

I had 2 games at my wedding. We had one game that was kind of on-going through out the night. My husband and I came up with questions about ourselves ahead of time (ex. Whose favourite food is daal? S or A?). The MC’s explained the game during the introduction speech, and then during the evening, they would say, ok its time for a question - who wants to play? And then they would pick one of our guests, and then ask them the question. If they got it right, they got a prize (we bought shawls and leather keychains in pakistan and put both in a small gift bag - 6 bags in total). People really liked that game.

We also had another game, its called the shoe game. Here is a link that explains it thoroughly (dj-tips-and-tricks.com - This website is for sale! - dj tips and tricks Resources and Information.). Of course we didnt use all the questions, we took out the ones that arent really appropriate for a pakistani wedding - you can also look up different websites for this same game, and they may offer more questions as well. And we didnt have the bridesmaids/groomsmen, it was just us sitting back to back in front of the stage. People loved this one!! Even in our wedding video, you can see people laughing their heads off.

We also had a photobooth at our wedding, that people loved!!! and I thought it was totally worth the money!

Re: Fresh new ideas for today’s weddings

Since ours is a mixed wedding, I was thinking for the reception:

  • He walks in with his mum first (doesn’t have dad)
  • His best friends waiting at stage for him
  • My nieces walk in front of me as my flower girls
  • I come in last with mum and dad

And I want to throw a bouquet for my single friends - a lot of them will be gori - at end of reception.

Trying to find sitar player for background music at reception.

No DJs - just an MC.

Key chains for gifts and/or jewelry trinkets for women.

We’re having a scrabble theme since we met online playing scrabble and we have ordered this book for guests to sign and leave a message,

Mehndi will be outright hulla gulla desi

Our names will be criss-crossed on top with scrabble letters.

That sounds awesome! Was it expensive?

My friend had a fresh sweetcorn in cups with masala being made and given out (sounds weird but it was really tasty) and a candyfloss machine for her mehndi, and we played loads of games and she hired a bellydancer to make all the women get up and dance.

Wedding was pretty traditional though :/

Re: Fresh new ideas for today's weddings

^ that is very cool!! It's actually a very huge street side food in the city he lives in!

Re: Fresh new ideas for today's weddings

Yeah she spent a lot of money, but on the right things! (her mehndi outfit was only like, £150 which is VERY cheap for a mehndi outfit, esp compared to what women spend these days). I also love the ideas of candybars (there's a thread about it floating around), we had one for my brother's mehndi and it looked great!

We also had a Blind Date style game on my brother's mehndi, one of us wore a mask with his face printed on it, and the 3 of us were 'potential' brides (i.e. old lady, girl saying 'yuck i hate boys' and then someone pretending to be the actual dulhan) and we asked all sorts of silly questions, was great fun!

Re: Fresh new ideas for today’s weddings

can you post the pics of the photobooth?

Re: Fresh new ideas for today's weddings

I love the idea of the shoe game. I wonder though what would be appropriate questions at a desi wedding!!!!!

Re: Fresh new ideas for today’s weddings

I wanted my dog to bring in the ring.. but mum said it wouldn’t be a good idea :teary1:

Seen falcons and owls doing it at other weddings..

Re: Fresh new ideas for today’s weddings

These sound like awesome ideas!

My friend was telling me about a Pakistani wedding she went to where they did a procession of the bride and groom’s friends before the bride and groom entered. And they all walked into “Sexy and I know it” by LMFAO! Getting rid of all those sad old, slow Indian songs really livens up the party because sometimes Pakistani weddings can end up being too stush. I think their rukhsati song was also an upbeat song. That’s totally something I’d do. I also like the bouquet toss idea!

Re: Fresh new ideas for today's weddings

Let me see which pictures I can find, because I gave the CDs with all our wedding pictures to my MIL in another city, so I have to see what I have. And I cant seem to find the link to the company I used.

The cost was about $1300 for 3.5 hours. You can choose to have less hours for less money, or more hours for more money.

Re: Fresh new ideas for today's weddings

wow great ideas guys!!! I was thinking of the bouquet toss with Beyonce's song "All the single ladies" playing in the back!!
