i dont have a big freezer and for some time i tried to make in small amount like me and for my hubby my hubby liked the salans that day and ask for more andi was a bit upset that i didnt cooked that much so both things dont work for me lol i dont make daig i do make three people meal so usually the third portion is left .
And above all in pakistan boys are spoiled a lot of having new dishes every day thats the main thing left overs are always left but now i made him eat yesterday we did eat the left overs.:)
usually mom cooks for (almost) every dinner and then next day its eaten for lunch too.. so we do eat leftovers nothing wrong with that because mom cant cook every single day!
the main concern here is that men are spoiled back home.. that is the biggest issue here. who dusnt like fresh food? i for one love fresh food but its not practical to cook or eat fresh every single day so we have t compromise a bit and eat atleast the same thing the next day... i dun like freezing much cus i believe only sum items retain the same taste after defrosting... its better to finish a food item in 1-2 days after cookin rather than freezing it.
Fresh EVERDAY???? Man I have seen people cooking fresh twice daily... and once they told me they can smell that this is cooked in the morning and this in dinner... i mean HOWWW
My husband is sweet.. he eat no matter how basi.. but must taste good... but eating same food for 2-3 days is TOO much... i mean you need variety...
yeah , in families where they cook fresh every day … or twice a day … some of them are such snobs they literally cant eat left overs ! They totally look down upon the left overs
i cook everyday , but if there is leftover either i freeze it or use it in parathas or rice the next day. but i do love the days when i dont have to cook and use leftovers.
That is so not true. Please don't generalize people. I probably am a fresh cooked food freak but that doesn't mean that I look down upon old food. I am just not a big fan of eating same thing 4 times in a row & also depending on what food it is and whether it was refrigerated at the right temperature and at the right time it can actually go stale.
For people who work or sometimes have schedules where they are not able to cook every day is a different thing & I don't think anyone should be all "nuckchira" about it but I have to admit I don't appreciate it when you go to someone's place & they take out 3,4 days old leftover food & serve you. That's just plain simple disrespectful.
One thing is for sure though there is no doubt that Biryani & Karhi always taste better the next day.
Also freezing can be tricky depending on what food it is. Not everything taste right or can be defrosted properly.
I think I cook every other day, some days I seem to cook every day. Over the years, I've learned how to cook just enough for a meal plus maybe leftovers for 1 person, so either hubby or I eat that the next day for lunch. It's not like we don't like leftovers...trust me, I have made new things from leftovers such as tahari from old aloo gosht, daal parathas from leftover daal, etc...
I think the problem is that people make way too much at one time and then have to serve it over and over again. If I ever make too much salan, I divide it in half and freeze one portion for a rainy day. Most of the times, I try to control the quantity and serve fresh food every evening. Rotis and rice are made fresh daily for sure.
In my family the men prefer to have fresh every day. I think that has to do with the fact that both my mother and sisterinlaw (seperate houses) are housewives. In such a case I dont think it is unreasonable to sort of wish to have fresh food everyday. That being said, it is not unusual if we eat the same for two days, especially meat salans go well at our house for second days as my dad and brothers are big meat fans, whereas sabzi daal is not liked so much two days in a row. But we def. do not reuse the same salan for 3-4 days, thats too much imo. 2 days is just abt enough. And we dont like freezed salans either, so we dont freezer either. Probably we dont know how to do it properly, it is def. not something my mum ever really did/do.
I like to reuse the food a bit more creative instead of serving the same on second day, so if we have leftover keema I will add some capsicums, potatoes and pasta sauce to it and make a pasta dish out of it. With daal we usually boil chawal and do a daal chawal thing with salad. With some sabzi's like gobi and spinach we usually make parathas.
We tend to cook something different most days. The trick is to cook just enough for that one day. When something is leftover or extra then we have no problems with eating it for lunch or dinner the following day. We don't cook loads that we will be eating the same thing for days on end but at the same time we have very minimal, if any, food wasted.
