I don’t think this is Hardware problem as if Computer installs Windows without rebooting then it is Software problem.

Have you installed SP2, Normally this is a problem when you install winXP and can be solved after installing SP1, and then SP2.

Check theat if he has installed the legall version if not it could be due to that???

yes he has installed SP2 and he has a legal version of it :D, I am the one who uses illegal stuff shhhhhhhhhh j/k
