Unfortunately, I can't afford to travel by Emirates/Etihad everytime I cross the Atlantic, so i rely on universal FF, like aeroplan or airmiles. Still, like i said before, got nothing in return. maybe gas cards and movie tickets after i redeemed my points =/

lemme tell you a secret...watch out their specials in order to accumulate huge bonus miles, always buy everything on ur charge card, cash in ur miles when its the cheapest, they run mile's special too. look for new routes and new incentives. u'll not even know when it all adds up. :) fly with the airlines that are in trouble financiallly difficulty [like the one's that are in bankruptsy protection coz they tend to offer bonus miles] etc**
yeahh....but i'd rather shop when i wanna, not when they're giving me deals. That's how they lure you in and keep you in. By offering these so called specials, only to have your miles expire in due time.

not always and not reallly...suppose u r buying a big ticketed item then charge it and get miles credited to the FF programe of ur choice. have multiple FF Program memberships. prefer the airlines which gives you the widest rage of partner airlines and venders. Good Luck :)**
Go to kayak. My all time favorite.

not always. last year i went to india. i looked up everywhere i couldn't find anything cheaper than 1300 from Toronto. i searched Kayak and velocity N what not. fares from tornto is always much higher than via the US coz of the taxes. these days airlines are hiding their charges under the disguise of taxes. not many people look the break up of those taxes. its normal to charge over 300 in taxes for a ticket from toronto to delhi. [they hide fuel surcharges too]...anyways, so i went directly to American Airlines and in my search i included AApartner airlines and bingo i got a cheaper fare...for less than 900 dollars plus tax toltalling 960 canadian. so, it pays to be patient and know ur options.**
And that brings me to my next question - what website do you like best for plane ticket, hotels, etc?
kayak.com
not useful for travel to pakistan though.

That's highly impractical because so far, i have no travelled on the same airline twice
My dad's American Express is linked up to an airmiles scheme. Try that rather than an independent company. Thus far we have accrued enough points to go to Paris and back for 3 people. So it is worth a try.
