So I’ve been meaning to try Bioderma makeup remover (the one that comes in the huge 500 ml bottle with a pink cap) and Embryolisse. I use the Avene Thermal Water spray and it is wonderful. Do you guys recommend anything for my dry-combo skin? I tend to get oily in the t-zone and dry around the nose but for the most part my skin is good and not acne-prone. I just need a good skincare routine so I was looking for a good moisturizer (Oilatum or Embryolisse) to put underneath makeup so it doesn’t accentuate the dry skin I sometimes get. esp around the nose.
I also use the Bioderma make up remover and i have used the embryolisse one when i had dry skin, but i don't think this one or oilatum would work with combination skin
I have combo skin too and i use Avene Hydrance Optimale light which is great so i suggest you try that, another brand i like is Caudalie but it can be really expensive.
And why don't you recommend both the creams for combo skin? My combo skin is more on the side of normal-dry as opposed to oily. I rarely get oily if at all and my skin isn't acne-prone so that is why I'm looking for a rich/non-greasy moisturizer. I heard Oilatum is good for flaky skin which my skin tends to get, esp. during the winter months.
^since you said you tend to get oily in some areas, i thought maybe oilatum or embryolisse would be too much because they're oil based, personally i always go for water based products but it's up to you to see if your skin can bear them of course
I use water-based during the summer time when my skin is slightly oily in the t-zone but during the fall and winter it tends to get dry. Which do you find is more richer? Oilatum or Embryolisse?
oh i've never even seen any Oilatum products except for my nephew's bath oil lol, so i can't tell which one is better, it's not even sold here, but i'm looking at the ingredients each one contains and oilatum seems to be safer to use, it has 0 irritants and has a lot less ingredients which is always better, and embryolisse contains paraffinum which i despise
What makeup remover would you girls recommend? i'm sick of a using a scrub everyday. That stinkin St. Ives opened up the pores on my cheeks so much :( I have oily skin so after putting on foundation, I blot my skin throughout the day using powder a million times so I need something STRONG to take off all those layers. I've used a multitude of diff products and they just don't work. The things you girls mentioned sound good, but i'm a broke grad student, i've spent tons of money on makeup, I don't want to spend more taking it OFF! Help :-(
^ how about using a small amount of "milk of magnesia" to keep the oiliness at bay???put some small amount of milk of magnesia on a wet cotton ball ( cotton should be wet so that MOM is diluted and doesnt leave the whiite streaks on ur face)..dab it on clean oily areas allow it to try before putting the makeup .... just test the small patch first to see if it works out for you.. and i donot use expensive makeup removers i was using loreal cleansers and toners for a very long time but i m trying to go towards the natural things.. now i remove my makeup with olive or coconut oil ( yah i know stickyy) then i wash my face with "oats" and use milk as a cleanser and rose water as a toner... its really time consuming but my skin has improved ALOT and its worth it ...
BABY OIL, FTW! Please tell me you’re not using the St. Ives Apricot scrub?! That is the harshest scrub known to mankind and is NOT recommended for facial skin at all because it actually causes tears in the skin as it’s that abrasive. I’d use that on the body if at all. As for baby oil, do a patch test and see if you are allergic to mineral oil which is what baby oil basically is. Personally, my skin can handle baby oil but HATES coconut oil. Just test and see whether you react. If you don’t, then you have officially found the best makeup remover, ever. All you do is take some on your palm and rub it on your all-made-up-DRY-face and it will remove everything, right down to waterproof mascara. Then take a damp washcloth/towel and wipe it away. I then follow it up with a cleanser like Purity (nothing too foamy or harsh as it will dry out your skin) and my skin loves this method.
That being said, for eye makeup and clean up and that kind stuff, I recommend Bioderma (sold in French pharmacies and perhaps in the UK) but it’s quite expensive at $30 or so for 500ml.

I use MOM once in a while when I know I won't have my makeup on for too long. My skin is so oily that eventually the MOM doesn't work anymore and ends up making my skin look more scaly from the oil that breaks through =/

So oil seems to be the most popular method for removing makeup. I'll try baby oil first, it's probably the most gentle. I use vaseline to remove eye makeup and it works like a charm, hopefully this will work just as well on the face. Thanks girls :)
^Try getting unscented baby oil if possible. I like the scented kind and don't have a problem with it. But yes, oil cleansing using oils like mineral oil (baby oil) or even sunflower oil is quite popular amongst the skincare-savvy.
