French Flag display pic on FB

what is your take on it?

Re: French Flag display pic on FB

No take on it either way, good or bad. However, if someone wants to show their solidarity for the French people, or victims of this tragedy by doing it, I think it's extremely unfair to pick on them and question why they don't have one for Beirut and that they don't care about the Beirut tragedy and don't those lives matter as much blah blah blah. Why does it have to be one or the other? Can't a person show empathy for one while having it for the other as well?

"Can't a person show empathy for one while having it for the other as well?"

Yes. Of course. If stated respectfully - that other areas that did not get attention, but should have - we can use this as a teaching moment for social media giants such as FB. So that ALL tragedies are highlighted going forward.

Why can't we show empathy for one while having AND SHOWING empathy for the other?

Viva peace!

Re: French Flag display pic on FB

First I feel sad for the families of the victim in Paris.

Then if some one see FB every day, and one day he/she see french flag, he/she wonder and find out how hell broke loose on Paris.
Would he/she not think all the other day when she/he did not see a flag, no hell broke loose on any one???
That would not be true, would it ???

Re: French Flag display pic on FB

One of the biggest non-issue thats been discussed as the utmost importance especially our desi bhruv. Since it was happening on FB where people are unleashed and take it as a holy obligation to post and share memes without even thinking if it makes any sense at all.

There is a big difference b/w Paris and Beirut or others. Paris is one of the biggest tourist places, much peaceful , a lively city which has very few matches in the world. Then one day its taken literally hostage for several hours resulting in so many unfortunate deaths. Now FB activated its feature (ofcourse Mark Zachurberg made a lot of money on this) and if someone is changing their DP to french color, so what? They are showing their support and solidarity. Why slam them saying stuff like u didnt change DP for syria, beirut etc. WTH! You dont like it, dont do it. You further dont like it, dont use FB at all. Who is forcing you? Its that simple.

Seriously, people need to grow up and get a life.

Re: French Flag display pic on FB

Is this also an issue?

Re: French Flag display pic on FB

I don't see why France should get a flag and other countries cant. You cant ignore the fact that such a big corporation influences millions of users, inevitably influencing the public to sympathise with Western countries such as France rather than the middle east and asia etc. Is a human life not a human life in Syria, Iraq, Afganistan etc etc. I get that Paris/France is such a popular destination with many, but still.

I dont think flags should actually be used at all. Let people make their own minds up as to who to support instead of brainwashing from left right and centre.
