French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Salam All

Need suggestions specially those who do have used the French door fridge. I like its concept very much, its space saving and at same time its having large capacity within. I have seen it at my brother in law’s home (obviously before i saw in shops but was not interested somehow) and had the idea that the freezer has a good storage capacity. Im a person who freezes lots of stuff like kababs, samosas, Veggies and even want salans to store but owing to less space in my normal freezer not possible.
I quite like concept of french door and need suggestions that how good is to have it or you ppl would advise to have a normal fridge with just a deep freezer added to it.
Looking forward to your replies

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

I have a French door refrigerator…this model to be exact:

SAMSUNG
It is brilliant. Very roomy and well thought out. It’s very easy to configure the shelves inside to suit your needs. I particularly went for one with the flex drawer in the middle for my kids. I keep all there snacks and foods in there so they can help themselves without having to open the main doors.

The freezer portion is very clever too, as it also has multiple configuration options, including slots to stand up frozen pizza boxes. I have a second fridge/freezer in my mud room, but I find that we barely use it/have the need because this one accommodates everything nicely.

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Yes my Jithani also has two kids and she lives in US also. She freezes so many things even she cooks food for whole week and freeze it on freezer so it loked to me that its very roomy but as no experience so i needed advice. We are here still on rental homes where space is less to accommodate 2 freezer plus a fridge so i was thinking to go for french door.
SO it means I should go for that!!! Thanks
I still look forward for the advices

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

I like the french door fridges. You don’t end up making a mess in it as you would with a chest freezer. they’re easier to clean and easier to see what you’ve put in there, and gentler on your back.

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

It means its quite recommended!!!

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Thanks rainydays I have seen lots of videos but putting stance here is to look forward to the real life experience with this fridge. I appreciate your time that you put out to help me. Do you have this fridge, Can you narrate to me your experience? That would more interest me

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

I still like an extra freezer. The French door one is lovely to look at but lacks width, esp if like me you like to store cooking pots with food inside.

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Really? I found it to be the complete opposite :hmmm:

When I had the standard side by side fridge, on of my biggest issues was lack of width for when I had to stick a pot of food inside. Even since I’ve switched to this Samsung French Door, I can get a whole karhai/wok in there with no issues! I can even store foil trays of leftovers in there without any issue. I am totally impressed with the roominess inside.

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Hmm Thats what im looking for. I used to store haleem a lot in Pakistan as we had deep freezer there. Also used to store some out of season veggies and even some veggies that may not be always in your fridge but good idea to keep in freezer spring onion, cabbage, capsicum. Then also i freeze shami kabab, samosas and also raw koftas. I also like to store 2-3 salans which i cant do with a normal fridge. Would all this be fit in French Door khatti? Also if i want to put some oblong dish of dessert?

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

I did a lot of research before buying my fridge. There are many, many french door makes and models available, but I chose this Samsung model for the following reasons:

  1. The inside space. Like I’ve said above, the fact that you can configure the space to suit your needs (it has flip up shelves and shelves that slide in to accommodate tall items like I trifle pedestal bowl or large stock pot), and also the width inside means I can put oblong serving platters or 13x9 pyrex dishes in without a problem.

  2. The flex drawer between the fridge space and freezer. I mentioned that I use it primarily for my kids snacks and such, but it is another amazing feature/space saver. I was hosting a baby shower for a friend and I was making mini shot glass size desserts…I was able to get 30 mini desserts cups to chill in the that drawer with no issues at all! There is no way I would have been able to do that in a side by side fridge. The flex drawer also is configurable. It has an adjustable grid that moves up and down and right left to accommodate bottles too. It also has 4 different and separate temperature controls for this drawer alone.

  3. The fridge is extremely energy efficient, which was important to me.

  4. The freezer portion is very deep. It also has an extra shallow drawer that pulls out and this is where I store my frozen packets of samosas, shammi kebabs, frozen naan etc (basically anything that can lie flat).

Now I will be perfectly honest, all my meat I still keep in my second fridge’s freezer portion in my mudroom, but that’s just because I still have it. My actual freezer portion of my french door fridge in my kitchen is quite empty. If I ever decided to get rid of my second fridge, this one would still be more than enough for my needs. Admittedly, I do not make and freeze salans or store alot of frozen foods, so you may want to consider keeping a small chest freezer if you find that you freeze alot of things, but I personally have not found the need for it. I sold my chest freezer that I had in my old house when I moved into this new one and bought this fridge.

The only drawback I’ve found is that 1) the ice maker is very loud lol! About once a day, when it dumps the ice, it makes a crashing sound but we’ve gotten used to it lol. Also, the sides shelves of the fridge are long enough to fit the extra tall ketchup/condiment bottles, but again, that is a very minor issue.

Overall, I’m very please and literally in love with this fridge. It’s the best purchase we made for our new home.

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Well, I guess the Samsung one is different then.

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Thats where im afriad of. I dont want to end up taking the expensive fridge and then finding that Oh it just dont suit my needs. I also like its dispensing function a lot. However my sister in law also freezes lots of things however it means i may have to research more

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

You are never going to find everything you need in one single model. Even if you get 7-8 features/points checked, I’d say that’s a good purchase. If you do indeed freeze a lot or entertain a lot, than make up your mind you will need a second freezer or fridge no matter what. After that, then start looking at individual features of different models, and work your way from there.

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Yes true but I need a fridge/freezer that can atleast well capable of suiting my needs. As my husband is not at all appreciative of the idea of having so many things in home. He is more tended towards simple life (although we are not that good but he intends atleast). So if i have french door and then i would demand another freezer he would be nothing but only super annoyed so I have to keep these variables in mind too. However I saw that the medium size chest freezers are also around 300 liters and Samsung one is 250 liters so not thaaaaaaaaat big difference

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

One question Kahtti??? How is the ice maker /water dispenser of this model you using? Moreover Is this water dispenser needs to be connected with water source or we can put in water ourselves in it?

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Dispenser has surely be to plumbed with waterline I assume. Right?

French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Yes, for the dispenser and ice maker to work, you need to connect it to a water line. Not sure how it is in Aussie, but all kitchens here have the fridge space already plumbed to connect to the water line.

I love the ice maker (other then the loud sound it makes when it dumps the ice lol!). It makes 10 lbs of ice at a time and is very easy to remove.

In this model, you can even adjust the water temps in the dispenser and program it for how much water to dispense at a time (like according to your glass size)

If you don’t have a water line, you could just keep your own jug of water in the fridge

Re: French door fridge Vs Normal fridge plus separate deep freezer

Im not in plumbing but let me tell you Australia is quite backward than US and UK in many respects. We dont have door bells in homes. However I would have to sort this out before I go for french door as one of the strongest reasons was this dispenser too

Look into getting the plumbing fixed for the water line if you can, it will be well worth it.
