The Programme: an introduction
The Embassy of France in Islamabad has announced a special program for Pakistani students to study in France for Post-Graduate qualifications. Students can get a 1 to 2 year Master Degree : DEA, DESS, Masters or specialized degrees equivalent to the US Masters which may also lead to a PhD.
Students for this program will be selected through the Higher Education Commission on the basis of a set merit. Selected candidates will then undergo French language training in Pakistan at a French Cultural Center of their preference. After successful completion of training, selected candidates will then travel to France where they will again take-up an advanced level of training in French enabling them to effectively and efficiently carry out their further studies in French language. Following their language training students will be placed at a University for there post-graduate studies.
Who can apply?
Only students holding a first class bachelor degree in the subjects offered are eligible to apply for this program. Limited number of students from among them will also receive a scholarship sponsored by the French Embassy in Pakistan. A student must be holding a 4 year bachelor degree or equivalence / Masters (B.E/ M.Sc/ M.B.B.S) Throughout first class.
Getting this degree before May 2003, in case of last year of studies is a must for this program.

Applicants must be under the age of 30 (32 for serving candidates) before Oct 1st, 2003.
Fields of study
This program is limited to the following fields of education and students may register for any of the following subjects according to their background:
· ENGINEERING SCIENCES : Electrical, Chemical, Civil, Mechanical, Information Technology, Computer Sciences, Networks, Aeronautics, Telecommunications, Transports, Material Sciences, Applied Mathematics
· BIOTECHNOLOGY AND PUBLIC HEALTH
· ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES
· ECONOMY
· FINANCE
· MANAGEMENT SCIENCES
Cost of the program
In France, Education is a constitutional right which means that education is free and that no tuition fees are charged to the student. The government pays all general tuition fees whether students are French or not. As for international students, a specific follow up of studies is implemented. It can include extra classes and/ or personal follow up by a professor. That cost only is charged to the student. Cost of program for both self-sponsored students and scholarship holders:

How to apply :
Deadline for submission of applications is November 1st, 2003 . Student application need to contain photocopies of transcripts and degrees of higher studies. If one’s degree is to be delivered, one must provide a certificate. Applications must include:

· 1 recommendation letter
· 2 passport size coloured photographs
· Proposed subject of study in France (1 page)
· Certificate of financial soundness with affidavit of financial support for living/studies in France (relatives or employer)

Selection and Processing :
The applications will be processed by the Higher Education Commission and a merit list will be published on the website to announce the names of selected candidates.

In December 2003, final selection of eligible candidates will be made through interviews in English or French with a French Professor in Islamabad or Karachi. Your selection in the program ensures that you will be accepted in a French university.

Among the selected, limited number of students chosen on merit for the scholarship by the French Embassy will be exempted, during their Master degree, from any tuition fees, placing and monitoring charges and fees for French classes in Pakistan and France.
While learning French in Pakistan, from January to June 2004, applications will be sent by the French authorities to the universities. Each student may usually choose from amongst 2 to 5 acceptance offers according to the specificity of one’s subject.
Students will travel to France after the completion of their basic French classes in Pakistan to join an intensive training course in French language in a specialized center in France in July 2004. This course will end in September 2004.

Students will then join their University to start their post-graduate studies in September 2004.
