Free music - P2P - Is there any end to it?

Going through the court case for Napster, I was thinking…

Is there any way, the music industry or the movie industry will ever be able to, or should even try to, control this phenomenon?

The day after court ruled against Napster and they got an injunction, 20m ppl visited Napster to download their fav music…

What does it say? Will these ppl ever give up?

Then, there are networks like Gnutella, which have no central servers… How can anyone regulate them?

Is this a hopeless fight?

Did you ever use Napster? I did, and it is wonderful. Ideas like copyright, and artists’ due rights do not enter into the equation when your favorite song is lying there just begging to be downloaded by the click of a button…

Is the P2P (Peer to Peer) phenomenon here to stay?

Ideas, opinion, criticism… all welcome!

I am not a Napster junkie but I have used it for atleast 10 times for sure and I count myself among those other zillions of of people using Napster across the globe.
I have recently setup a skeleton MP3 website at http://www.forceseven.com/mp3z where you can find MP3 Ghazals & Geets in MP3 format absolutely free. There is still enough room for enhancements and I am working on it.

While uploading my favorite MP3’s I found myself so lucky since the songs I have there are all desi ghazals & geets and since we don’t have any copyright law in Sub-continent, I didn’t have any fear of finding
myself in the court of law and getting sued by some desi singer. I better uploading everything before they come up with some strict law since everything is in extremes over there

The founder of Napster actually made this MP3
files public after having a 5 to 7 year of IRC experience he decided to write a software which could make all hard drives shared and people could exchange files of their choice with each other all over the world. Napster is based on DCC send protocol
which sends or receive a file to a user while chatting and exchanging ideas & thoughts about their fav. music bands or singers at the same time. The idea clicked and now Napster is the hottest technology around (Yahoo Magazine December 2000).

Napster is also a heaven for those who hate to buy a CD just to listen to one of their most favorite songs in the entire album. It’s been a drag and a total waste of money if Bon Jovi fills his CD with crap except for one cool song that you actualy need you have to spend atleast $12 to $15 if singles is not out yet. If that song is available on Napster then why not click and download it free

Even if Naspter shuts down permanently, it has passed the baton over to other MP3 search engines/shareware like Futella etc. that will carry on the tradition and will keep something always available for the
public that provides free downloading of favorite songs across the globe.

Internet is going be all independent as soon as this centralized concept is gone…I amwaiting for that moment like myriads of other users
