Free-2-Air Ethnic Satellite Programming in Canada

Dunno if I should cross-post in Shor Sharaba, but I’m exploring my options in getting a satellite service setup at my new place.

I’m totally unfamiliar with the technology - been a cable customer pretty much all throughout and was wondering if anyone has had experience with buying their own dish & receiver for getting free to air programming.

I’m interested in getting ethnic programming in arabic, hindi and urdu.
Companies like StarChoice and Bell ExpressVu have limited choices in that, so I’m not too fond of that option.

and if anyone knows:
are Prime PTV, Sony and Zee available as Free-2-Air ? and would a DVB MPEG-II system work for these?

Prime PTV, Sony and Zee are not available free :)
and a few months back they have started using a new technology for scrambling data, so hacked cards wont work either anymore. :D

U can buy a self updating card, that works no matter how many times the satellite companies change their algorithm. So u can get all the channels u want and just pay for basic service.

But of course, that would be breaking the law.

Umar,
Dish network is available through local guys. All Indian and ptv prime, aljazeera, dubai and PPV are also available and as you mentioned, you buy your own dish and receiver and depending on the channel package you choose, monthly ($20-$25 per month, usually in one payment) is also available and with this option, your card would work for a year and you don't need to worry about getting it programmed all the time.

I checked with Dish Network and the service is not available in Canada. I know so many places using this service and you can also see the advertisement in local Pakistani newspapers.
