fraud

I know someone who is talking about trying to obtain a loan of hundreds of thousands of pounds pretending to start a business and then taking it to Pakistan. And then declaring bankrupcy. He has it all planned out and people are helping him out with it. I have tried to talk him out of it. He has a wife and kids and I’ve said what would happen to them if you got caught but he says he wont get caught. What do you think I should do. Would his wife know or should I tell her. Maybe she could talk him out of it.
What is the sentence for a crime like this in the UK?

Re: fraud

is he a family relative?? in that case is his wife closer to you or him?

Re: fraud

Yes hes family. His wife is from Pak (desi) and doesnt take much interest in things like that? Shes fairly close to me. But she wasnt around when we were discussing this. So I'm not sure if she know. And he seemed to think the less she knows the better.

Re: fraud

oh wow that's kinda complicated.....i would think u have a responsibility to tell his wife but then there is the question of minding your own business...
ok have you tried telling an adult who can somehow talk the guy out of it? or better gauge the chances of being caught? not that not being caught makes it ok lol but just for the family's sake i guess.....this is so sad! that man is putting the future of his family at sake...since her rep will also be dictated by his actions... :(*

Re: fraud

A criminal always thinks that, he will never be caught. Tell him, that there are people in investigation teams who can out smart him in minutes. If he sends the money by bank he would be in trouble. A large sum by "hundi" is traceable too, & dont ask about carrying cash in large sums (Thats illegal). But again, when person's brain works otherway round he thinks he is covering all ends but always leave loads to follow.

Tell him not to do anything illegal.

Re: fraud

..

Re: fraud

itll be on your conscience.....

you will be paty to it..its theft and on the day of Judgement you will be held accountable...

actually I said the last last line to make you feel bad... I dont know if its true.

the sentence depends upon how much money and who is involved...
having said that...money sent to pakistan especially large amounts IS being monitored
for obvious reasons

Re: fraud

stealing is stealing is stealing

Re: fraud

You have to decide wut the right thing is. Rather tell her wife and save him from getting caught, than to feel guilty later on for what you couldv'e done to save his precious childrens lives, maybe even his own. But it all depends, you know. If he's too determined to do it, then at least you can be satisfied that you tried to talk him out of it. But frm what I know, in order to take the loan in the first place, he'll have to prove that he has enough property already which the bank will cease in case he fails to return the money...so not sure if his plan will work in the first place...

Re: fraud

Need a good piece of advice?

Send me his contact details. I'll report him to the police. You remaining quiet about this matter is as criminal of an act as the actual act of fraud. I am ashamed of you.

Two people did that to my father and left the country. We traced one of them. He cries like an idiot and apolgises. Lots of humiliation. But the second one who even borrowed from banks has made up and spread the story that he's been 'kidnapped'. And my father actually believed it and went for 'afsos' to his family who was also lying as was found out later. @$$holes. If I could, I'll shoot each one of them in one go.

Re: fraud

he shouldnt do it, he will get caught, does he ever plan to come back to the UK again? if so he'll be caught, if he stays there they can still catch him no problem... it also depends on the amount involved but nevertheless he will be very foolish for trying to carry out this fraud

Re: fraud

I think the best thing to do will be to tell some elder in the family, who can actually talk him out of it or if he does not agree, he can tell him that he might be reported.

Re: fraud

they stole from your father???sucks!!!

Re: fraud

yes shweet, many people. not only these two but the story of this fraud was similar to these two frauds I mentioned.

Re: fraud

It will be wise first to start some business in the UK...make money...do the repayments and then move back to Pakistan to restart there...

Re: fraud

If you know for absolute sure that the guy is up to no good, report him or as TNW suggested, have him reported. I'm sure there are ways to handle this type of thing anonymously.

Imagine if it was your money........

Re: fraud

the ytragedy is that many people think taking loans and not returning them as a crime, they think its pretty normal , but it's like theft really, i know many south asians who are in this business, infact my humble self was once made this offer by this tout that he can get me an eatsren european passport for 800 pounds and alos get a loan on top..... ofcourse i refused (how stupidddddddddddddd) but there are many people who like the idea of easy money and think its ok as long as they are not hurting anyone.

Re: fraud

it's not one person, many people are involved in it, there are touts working in banks, the middleman and all, they all take their fair share of the money, the poor guy is just the "end user".
